jr1, as mentioned by Dieter above, please check the BIOS of your computer to see if it allows for booting from USB, and if it is set. Some computers did not allow for USB booting, that was a few years ago and I don't haven't owned a Dell computer, so my knowledge on their BIOS is very minimal.
Thanks, -Uplinger |

Well it does have an option for it, but it doesn't work.
I do have yet another computer, currently with WinXP. Tomorrow I will install version 14 in that one. I have a question about this computer I'm using right now. It has Ubuntu version 12.04 Am I going to be able to upgrade directly to version 14, or am I going to have to do the complete installation of version 14? If I completely re-install on this one, am I going to be able to keep all my favorite bookmarks etc? |

Going from version 12.04 to 14.04 will be a simple upgrade. They will have the path set for that tomorrow. It might be slow as many people will be upgrading. About your bookmarks, they should continue, but since I have not done the upgrade I can not confirm.
On the computer that has the option, did you try putting the USB stick in a different USB port. I know that sounds silly, but maybe you have a faulty usb port. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Just installed it on a virtual machine. The install went quickly, and it installs version 7.2.42 of the BOINC client and manager. it does not not install the ia32-libs for 64 bit Linux. so if you install the 64 bit linux version you will only get 64 bit applications from WCG with the defaults from apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager.
Thanks -Uplinger |

If you want to install the 32-bit compatibility libraries in 14.04, you can do so by opening a terminal session then enter the following command
sudo apt-get install gcc-4.7-multilib Then it should run 32-bit applications. |

My own (main) computer has version 12.04
----------------------------------------I ran the Update Manager but it says there are no updates available. How can I upgrade to version 14? Also I checked http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/upgrade and it clearly says upgrade from version 13, not 12 [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 18, 2014 2:00:21 AM] |

I found it. I have to upgrade to 12.10 from 12.04 first,
then version 13 and then 14 I had to change the Settings in my update manager to allow 'any' new versions |

This can take a long time.
Instead, can I just back-up my bookmarks in another USB stick somehow? How do I do this? Then I can just install version 14 and load my bookmarks. |
