BOINC auto update?

Won't BOINC download the newest version of WCG automatically?

Re: BOINC auto update?

boinc has no auto update mechanism, only an event log alert to advise on a new recommended version. Reasons abound why not this is, request to developers time and again rejected. Exception on android. Here the new agent is automatically pushed by the playstore and you can opt out from that as well.

If you had the original wcg version and the config file it came with, you're only told of a new release in the log by wcg. The control is set by these config entries:

<client_version_check_url>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/download_al...ent_version_check_url>
<client_download_url>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/view...;/client_download_url>

There is no need to if you install system software through software repositories, because the updates will then be installed as soon as they become available.
If you don't use software repositories, you're on your own. tongue

Re: BOINC auto update?

devilish
BOINC is continually updated by volunteers. Almost every update breaks something. There isv a good reason not to auto-update. There is a lot of discussion about updates and which to stay away from.

I trust the WCG recommended updates. I am suspicious of most others.
