New WCG Version

The new Version WCG 7.2.42 seems to be the 32 bit version, is there a 64 WCG version available?

Re: New WCG Version

It says 7.2..47 on the download page but you're getting .42? It makes no difference as the 32bit agent handles 64bit sciences well.

Looking at it from android tablet the page claims I've not selected faah. I have on the school profile, suspecting this probably checks default only.

The forum pages keep appearing with the old headers, then with some delay the new header/logo slides over. The address bar shows the old chevron icon. Is that right?

Re: New WCG Version

My mistake, meant .47. I still think there should be a 64 bit version otherwise why does Boinc offer a 64 bit 42 version?

Re: New WCG Version

For windows there's to me no reason, plus it reduces chance of error when instaling to 32 bit systems which are still around and will be for years to come.

Totally agree with Scribe. Also can someone explain why this version is better than the Official 7.2.42 Windows 64 Bit variant (or Beta 7.3.x versions). I would have expected to see an explanation of the differences to allow an informed decision to download. I know sick communication sick isn't a strong point for WCG, but ANY Professional IT company would be expected to produce a Software Release Note!

Re: New WCG Version

We release versions of the software which have gone through a security review. Also, as you mention 7.3.x is a beta release with changes daily to the source code.

As for 64 bit or 32 bit recommendation, we choose the 32 bit version because every computer running windows can use that version of the client. But if we were to recommend the 64 bit not every computer would be able to run the client. A 32 bit client on a 64 bit machine will try to download 64 bit science applications even though the agent is 32 bit.

Also, the differences between 7.2.42 and 7.2.47 are minor, but one of the changes is a fix to a screen saver bug that was discovered during our testing.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: New WCG Version

There's plenty of information on installing the new release, but absolutely nothing that I can find on migrating from the current 6.10.58 release. If it is really as simple as a re-install, please say so within the WCG web pages. But if there is a need to complete currently running WUs before the upgrade, or another special activity, please say that too. The lack of information just tells me not to do it!

Re: New WCG Version

Apis,

The upgrade path is very simple, just download and install over the top of the previous version. It should prompt you to reboot after the install is complete. Once that is done, you will be running the latest version of the agent. The work units do not need to be completed, they will restart from checkpoint after reboot.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: New WCG Version

uplinger: Thanks for info regarding info that only minor changes between 7.2.42 and 7.2.47. I therefore will stick with the 64 Bit Berkeley Windows version.
