7.3 is alpha, all odd releases are i.e 7.5 7.7 7.9 will be too.. 7.4 will be the next beta release candidate eventually some minor becoming a recommended. Exception to this rule are the android versions. They've started to live a life of their own in development.

Hello,
This may be a silly question, but what is the difference between the new wcg version and the plain Boinc software from berkeley? Is one better at processing the units than the other? Are they the same with only some cosmetic changes? Or am I totally misunderstanding something? |

With the wcg label on the installer corporations, such as your bank, know theyve got a vetted agent. Anyother and they would not allow this in their organisation. Also note this download comes from wcg/ibm if you follow the link, adding to the organizational feel save.

alged, from what I read there's only ever been a 32 bit wcg custom build for windows, one size fits all windows. No mac or linux, both platforms a heck of a lot more secure, but only as secure as the projects you choose to attach to. There are some to me unsavory i'd never touch. But then, the organizations that explicitly choose for wcg will only run wcg sciences, and block the project attach feature if they feel they need to. Another config setting.
Btw, soon log flag setting for the event log diagnostic expansion will have an gui screen. This possibly asa 7.4, which boinctasks has had for several years now. 7.4 will be the next release candidate. |

We release versions of the software which have gone through a security review. Also, as you mention 7.3.x is a beta release with changes daily to the source code. As for 64 bit or 32 bit recommendation, we choose the 32 bit version because every computer running windows can use that version of the client. But if we were to recommend the 64 bit not every computer would be able to run the client. A 32 bit client on a 64 bit machine will try to download 64 bit science applications even though the agent is 32 bit. Also, the differences between 7.2.42 and 7.2.47 are minor, but one of the changes is a fix to a screen saver bug that was discovered during our testing. Thanks, -Uplinger So why don't you also TEST both version for Win...the x86 (32bit) and x64? Most of new people are running x64 versions of Win7/8 'cause they need more than 3GB of RAM... ;) |

Does the agent bit size in any way limit the memory use of a 64 bit science application? Something to know given that we're reading of very big cep2 models coming to the community, opt in of course.
