Re: Error received when doing update to report completed tasks.

Maybe this is not a coincidence.
On 3/13/2014 I applied 9 Windows updates.
On 3/14/2014 a problem is detected with BOINC scheduler that points to a corrupted sched_reply file as the cause.

Did the update restart bungle the scheduler communication?

I have convinced myself that it did.

Re: Error received when doing update to report completed tasks.

Did a "Project reset" and the sched_reply file has been rebuilt with no syntax errors.
New work downloaded.
Event log looks normal.
Looks like the problem is solved.
But I have no idea how much completed work has been lost.

I decided on project reset over Detach/Attach because the latter choice makes me nervous.
What happens if I detach and it won't attach?
I do not want to find out if that will happen!

Anyone experiencing this issue should retry now and see if it works correctly.

405 World Community Grid 14-03-2014 22:03 [checkpoint] result MCM1_0002929_0340_1 checkpointed

Strangely enough, as per my previous post, the results had been reported fine per the results status page, just not clearing the entries on the client. Reporting them again did not flag them, guessing now that the serer was aware of the confirmation not haven gotten through.

Re: Error received when doing update to report completed tasks.

Kevin, was this something caused by the sched_reply file getting corrupted? Would shutting down BOINC, deleting the sched_reply file, and restarting BOINC have fixed this?

1. In this thread I said that file corruption was my problem and "Project reset" fixed it. A 2nd opinion is welcome.
2. You don't need a corrupted file to prove that the sched_reply is rebuilt using your scenario.
And what happens if it does not rebuild?

Re: Error received when doing update to report completed tasks.

I believe that there is a bug in how BOINC transitions from an old application version to a new application version like we just did with mcm1 when Homogeneous App Version is enabled for the application (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/HomogeneousAppVersion).

I manually changed the settings for the workunits that referenced the old application version to point to the new application version. People have reported success following that change.

This points to a server issue and not a client issue.
