Well, this is a new problem for me, and if it has already been reported in a different thread, please let me know where. The messages describing the problem are in the event log and I will paste a copy of these below:
3/13/2014 9:44:19 AM | World Community Grid | update requested by user 3/13/2014 9:44:24 AM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. 3/13/2014 9:44:24 AM | World Community Grid | Reporting 5 completed tasks 3/13/2014 9:44:24 AM | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU 3/13/2014 9:44:35 AM | World Community Grid | [error] Can't parse task in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax 3/13/2014 9:44:35 AM | World Community Grid | [error] No close tag in scheduler reply I have considered Aborting the completed tasks (one at a time) followed by an Update, but I do not want to lose the work done by this computer. I have done a Shut down followed by another Update attempt and that is where I received the above messages. Any help would be appreciated. |

Can't parse task in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax
----------------------------------------has sometimes occurred previously but I can't see an instant solution. Browsing the list of previous discussions may be of some help. |

I do not see any information in previous discussions that is of any help. I have not had this problem previously and I have been running WCG since July, 2005.

I do not see any information in previous discussions that is of any help. Some have reported that the problem goes away after a few hours. To avoid more drastic options that lose work, you might like to wait and see if that happens in your case. |

Dave, when you said shutdown, did you mean BOINC or reboot the machine? I'd wait before aborting anything. Until you have enough waiting to upload that the server won't send new work to that machine, you don't have to force anything. What level of BOINC is on this machine?

The level of BOINC is 7.2.28 (x64). I did a complete shut down and found out that there were some incomplete updates that needed the shut down to complete. After the shut down (w/o restart), I did the reboot. Based on other comments I have received, I will retry the update later today. If I am running out of work, I will increase network usage by a day. |

I'm running 7.2.42 (x32) now. Upgrading BOINC is one more thing you can add to your list of possibilities if waiting doesn't pan out as expected. You won't lose any WU's upgrading BOINC but I don't see anything that would point to a BOINC bug.

I went to the XS forum and found the last post saying "had to delete whole boinc directory, but atleast it's working now". I am not sure if doing that would save all of the "Ready to report" tasks.

Since I have not gotten any response to this problem to resolve the problem, I am going to stop all WCG processing in the next hour. Perhaps the first thing I will do is to obtain the latest version of BOINC from Berkeley. I cannot continue to wait for a resolution since I am using the computer and need to have a resolution within the next hour. If this doesn't resolve the problem I think I will have to delete the project and add it back again.
