Re: Discussion thread for Beta Test for Content Delivery Network

Got this error

10582 World Community Grid 17-01-14 19:37:02 Started download of beta18_image06_7.06.tga
10583 17-01-14 19:37:03 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
10584 World Community Grid 17-01-14 19:37:03 Temporarily failed download of beta18_image06_7.06.tga: transient HTTP error
10585 World Community Grid 17-01-14 19:37:03 Backing off 5 hr 44 min 50 sec on download of beta18_image06_7.06.tga
10586 17-01-14 19:37:04 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

What happens when you try to view: https://BDD7.https.cdn.softlayer.net/80BDD7/g...d/beta18_image06_7.06.tga in your browser?

(note that it will be binary characters, but if you see a lot of random characters then you were able to download it).

Is this the only file that you had trouble downloading and the others download ok? What happens if you select it and click 'retry now'.

thanks for the information

The file is not loading. i had to close my browser Firefox with the taskmanager
the file is still stuck in my boinc manager at 58% downloaded and it continue to retry the download.
no problem with the other files

What happens when you try to view: https://BDD7.https.cdn.softlayer.net/80BDD7/g...d/beta18_image06_7.06.tga in your browser?
If another data point helps, I also find that "viewing" that file in Firefox usually causes Firefox to hang - I say "usually", because it did work once. However, right click - Save Link As always works quickly. The Firefox downloader says it transferred 2.8MB and the file size in Windows Explorer is 16,777,260 bytes; presumably compressed for transfer?

The local (UK) CDN server before and after these tests is 93.184.221.109.

Note that I didn't have any problems with downloading during the Beta test (on the same machine).

Re: Discussion thread for Beta Test for Content Delivery Network

I got the file by right click and save as
as tonyh205 suggested but the file is still hanging in my boincmanager
I'm trying to access it from belgium

-- Edit Resolved ---
I closed boinc
went to my appdata\wcg\directory and deleted the file
Restarted boinc
retry to download the file and it worked

The file i deleted beta18_image06_7.06.tga was around 9MB the good one now is 16.7MB

Re: Discussion thread for Beta Test for Content Delivery Network

Are the below checksum / certificate errors related to this impending delivery system switch? Did a detach and add cycle on this 8 thread system which was computing MCM1 just before. The same errors appear when adding FightAIDS to the selection, both for faah and FAHV work, seemingly only the application and tga files suffering the faith. Since on 2:35 hours backoff will know then if temporary glitch.

Re: Discussion thread for Beta Test for Content Delivery Network

Got 8, no problem downloading, 2 valid so far.
Edit: I jumped the gun. The two downloads I got for my wired system worked no problem. The other six, going through a wireless system to all Linux clients all got "transient HTTP errors" and hung at various places from 60 to 80% complete. I tried all manner of ways to get them going again, reboot, reset router, reset range extender, re-enable the connection through the OS - nothing. So after a couple of days of retries ( they were listing times up to 7+ hours for the retry) I aborted the downloads. I am thinking the problem may lie on my end as the wireless system has periodically been flaky, but usually doing one of the above things will unstick the system. Up to the Beta, it had been working without fail for the last month. I know that for some reason it dislikes either up or downloads in excess of 10 megabytes.
Cheers

Re: Discussion thread for Beta Test for Content Delivery Network

I had three beta WUs from this round of testing. All came to my machine w/o any changes needed. All three ran fine, finished and are in Valid status.

Picked up a repair job a few hours ago. I hope the techs can discover whether the No Reply unit was caused by the CDN or not.
