Re: MegaCruncher - Build Log

@Joe - very good points, I didn't think of it like that. That's what Microsoft would refer to as TCO - Total Cost of Ownership - this includes the running costs not just the purchase price. With the ever growing trend towards a 'Green' world, all businesses should be doing what they can to reduce power usage, these new chips would do that.

Good and valid points Joe, many thanks

Re: MegaCruncher - Build Log

Well after five days crunching FA@H the early stats are in!

Current five day stats look like this:
100k PPD (Average - 99,817 to be exact)
    7 PPW (7.03)
    168 RPD (results 150-190)
33 (average) CPU days per calander day (27-39)

I don't know what you guys think, but I think the stats are a little dissapointing! This beast is running 64 cores, no H/T. I would expect it to do closer to 50 CPU days/Calander Day, just on that along, it appears to be running at a little ove 50%

I'm going to stop the desktop and run it in full server mode for now and see if it improves.

Any tips would be appreciated, as would your comments.

Re: MegaCruncher - Build Log

I think there might be a problem with the device statistics page...all my machines only report about half their core count for run time per day too.

I've opened a problem thread to help us figure out what's going on.

Thanks Ryan, I'll add up the machine stats and see if I get the same discrepency as you do...

Re: MegaCruncher - Build Log

Check your pending validation status for that machine. My guess is there will be a lot of earlier units in PV. In my experience it takes at least 10 days for things even out.

On my end, the 10 day runtime average for my 16 core unit is 15.9, so its right where it should be. I reboot at most monthly for patches and maintenance. I also close out my browser at the end of day as they tend to consume cycles. My points on the other hand has taken a hit recently, however this seems to be related to changes with CEP.

PV prison is around 6 pages and is more or less static at 6 pages so would not be contributing to the discrepency.

The issue is that the results on the device page and over all do not tally...

Re: MegaCruncher - Build Log

I've had a look at my device stats and they seem to be right where I'd expect. I suppose it could be a problem with certain machines either recognising some AMD chips or ridiculous core counts incorrectly.

But even at that, if the stats page is simply adding up the details of the units returned it should come up with the correct totals even if the chip details are not being recognised correctly.

I suppose you've checked that the preferences are set to use all cores both on the website and in the client and that there are jobs running on all cores? Just wondering if the config file may have become corrupted.

Yep, 64 WU's running, and can be seen in both Boinc and MGM (hardware monitoring tool on Ubuntu)
