June 29, 2014 Update
----------------------------------------The following figures are based on a total number of work units of 350,000,000 from cubes. Last 30 day average results: 566,711 Estimated end date using 30 day average: August 26, 2015 Percent Complete: 31.45414 % The average length of a WU is currently running about 3.67 hours. It looks like we are stabilizing on 3 to 5 hour units, at least for the moment. It is nice to see large numbers of units being processed though. There were two days with monster amounts in the past week. Cheers

Sarge... do you know why the Research page is showing 25% completion vs your 32.44%? Different standards or lack of updating the Research page (which I suspect)?
----------------------------------------Thanks for the effort in keeping us updated as to the progress of the project. CJSL Gotta keep crunching, there's a world to save !!! |

Sarge... do you know why the Research page is showing 25% completion vs your 32.44%? Different standards or lack of updating the Research page (which I suspect)? Thanks for the effort in keeping us updated as to the progress of the project. CJSL Gotta keep crunching, there's a world to save !!! There are several possibilities. First, you may be correct, they have not updated their research page. Second, they may have changed the total number of workunits they anticipate having in the project, if they have added more workunits, it will affect the percentage done. Third, they may be using an anticipated number of hours for the project in their calculations rather than number of workunits. Since the workunit length is highly variable in this project, this would affect the percentage done on a time basis. Fourth, there may be some other reason of which I have not thought. If I learn any new information, I will incorporate it into the estimates. Cheers

I wonder if we are still computing the lung cancer WUs or we already started the next phase (ovarian cancer).

5th, the error rate is higher than in the original assumption. Since the percent on the research page has been updating in regular pace since it started showing, think you can from validated batch number some 36 hours ago, assuming there's a 36 hour average lapse, derive how many at quorum 2 were issued against the total showing on the project page as 'validated', which includes more than just valid. E.g. batch 5500 * 2 * 10000 if perfect processing takes place. That's 110 million. But, if the project page shows 115 million, you know the real average distribution is 115m / 55m (quorum 1) = 2.1. My guess is there's actually 2.2 or more needed, to get 1 canonical result for the scientists. The technicians could tell what the current average distribution is, the redundancy rate if you will. Then you would be able to closer emulate the progress.

I think it's also likely that the project scientists are working from results returned to them which, as I understand it, require the batch to be complete before the WCG techs pack it all up and send it to them. So their data will be a little delayed from what I would guess Sgt.Joe is working from.
Either way, I really appreciate Sgt.Joe's tracking and reporting of this! ![]() |

Lavaflow, good catch. It would be interesting to see what the error and reissue rate is for this project. I do periodically look at my results to see why a WU was reissued and overwhelmingly I see "detached." I have seen very few of anything else since the WU's were "fixed" early in the project. Based only on my own observations the actual "error' rate may be close to negligible. Maybe one of the techs will chime in so we do not need to speculate.

Recently I have seen a large number of resends; some were no reply and I have even noticed more "errors" as of late for the resends as well. Some of these "errors" were 6 or close to 7 days into the WU. Either someone has a very long queue or they have their machine over-clocked way too high. In one instance I received 12 resends all from the same batch; a few had errors and some were no reply. Chances are, all came from the same machine as they were all issued at the same time according to the WU information.

I like the speculation! :)
Our estimated completion is based off estimated time remaining. So if we say 100 days left and the project started 100 days ago, it would be at 50%. This is based off how fast batches are loading not completing, thus a 3 week difference in speed. Also, ours is based off batches not total number of work units. Thanks, -Uplinger |
