Re: Ripple Labs

Two things:

1) If you want to send to a bitcoin address from http://www.ripple.com/client , you don't have to trade XRP for BTC first, you just have to enter the bitcoin address as the recipient on the Send tab. The conversion at the market rate is automatic as part of the internal exchange mechanism. If you want a rate other than the market rate, you can use the Trade tab to name your own price, but that is not necessary.

2) If you don't want to deal with linking your bank account to a gateway to pull XRP out of Ripple, you can spend your XRP to get gift cards to over 200 retailers at http://www.gyft.com -- These are national chains and brands like Amazon, Regal Cinemas, Target, Nike, CVS and Crutchfield. Gyft even has a nice app for Android and iPhone, so you don't have to keep up with physical cards.

Gyft allows you to buy gift cards with bitcoin, which you can fund directly from your Ripple wallet. First pick a gift card, then select the "Pay with Bitcoin" option. On the next screen click "View Address" and use this address as the Recipient in your Ripple client when sending the amount shown on the Gyft invoice.

This is a nice way to give yourself little rewards if you aren't planning to either keep your XRP within Ripple for the long haul or cash out via a gateway.

Jack007: Gyft does not yet carry cards for Tim Hortons, but they do have gift cards for many restaurants.

Re: Ripple Labs

Hi all
I just want to know the current points: ripples ratio ( approximate).
Further kindly explain the difference between "credits' and "points" in WCG.

Thanks in advance

Re: Ripple Labs

just terminology when points, credits etc.
They just a way to keep track of your production.

The points ripple ratio would be about 125,000,000 to 500,000,
so 250 to 1. It varies day to day depending on how many total points are made,
and the amount they are giving away that day.
At least that is my understanding.
Welcome to the GRID!

Re: Ripple Labs

Just a word of warning to those using spot EC2 instances, I think you are about to have problems.

The WCG upload servers are full, this means any WU's you complete will be stored in the client until the problem is fixed. However, AIUI the BOINCclient will cease downloading any more Work if the number of tasks to be uploaded is more than twice the number of cores. e.g. 24 core unit =48 tasks in upload queue will stop downloads.

So your EC2 clusters could be quite soon running on empty if you are crunching the short FAAH units.

The second problem is if you get outbid on your EC2 instance and it shuts down with all those units waiting to upload. I've not used EC2 but AIUI you'd lose all data on the server, including WU's waiting to upload again...

So if you're using EC2 and reading this you might want to have a think about what you're going to do.

Jack007: What ripple address did you link to your WCG username at ComputingForGood.org? You have clearly accumulated enough XRP on the Ripple Labs team stats page to have been sent a distribution if the account was linked. If you don't want to publish your Ripple account address, take a look at the transaction history for that address at http://www.ripple.com/graph

For example, the address for the account sending out all the XRP for the WCG giveaway is https://ripple.com/graph/#rNKXT1p7jpt5WxSRSzmUV6ZB6kY7jdqHmx

Re: Ripple Labs

I tried last night and it wouldnt load, same this morning...
I didn't try chrome though, that might be it, I'll be back.

EDIT: of course it works on chrome, I'm just not used to going there.
So it shows a lonely little blue ball, and the two transactions from
my account elsewhere into the ripple wallet.
So the wallet is there, and I copied and pasted that address...
So, whatever when they get back to me they get back to me.

It's cool though, I see ripple labs has become a partner.

Re: Ripple Labs

I'm a dinosaur on IE.
i tried to redo everything, and says my user name Jack007
is already taken. Makes sense, because I did it, so there's no
way to fix if i errored other than support getting back to me.
So maybe when they get to it, I'll get one big DUMP of ripples biggrin

EDIT: Or I could start a new WCG account, new ripple account...
Not going to happen.
