Re: Going into Retirement!

Congrats Scribe. Love that new PC smell.

I'm also one of those people who likes to build mine from scratch but it's really not that hard. I'm pretty much proof of that concept. It can sometimes be a bit of headache and there's no automatic tech support but then again, you can get that here and many online forums.

The most difficult part believe it or not is matching components and that you can definitely suss out with the folks here. Actually putting everything together is pretty straight forward. There are countless youtube videos not to mention step by step guides.

The benefit of that of course is that you can plan better for future upgrades - for example by not having to worry about a dodgy or underspeced PSU. You might also decide to select a better m/b or memory to do some overclocking.

Anyway, enjoy the new rig!

Re: Going into Retirement!

Yep, and PC World should know that.

They should not be suggesting to customers, that they will put a splitter cable on an inadequate PSU for them.

John, 'Mousie' is the developer of that stats bar. It can be found at http://dcstat.com .

Many thanks for 'Mousie'. Much appreciated!

Re: Going into Retirement!

Still no sign of the 'new' cable! However, their techy guys assured me that the PSU was up to the job - I have a witness!- and as I said before, they have to fix it if it blows! wink

Re: Going into Retirement!

I saw manager.....profuse apologies and excuses......apparently the cable has to come from manufacturer in far east somewhere......I pointed out this was going to become a more frequent problem and maybe PC/Currys should think about getting a stock in! His answer was "most purchasers are satisfied with the fitted cards and don't fit better ones "!!!!!!!!!!!

Any way I took the PC (now typing on it) and will return it whenever cable arrives - possibly up to 3 weeks!!!!
