Honestly Dave! I even hear news about it on Bolivian television! Still there's none so deaf than those who won't hear eh! I seem to remember a wonderful monologue by Sir Humphrey in 'Yes Prime Minister' about the reasons each of the major EU countries joined. I seem to remember that the French wanted to subsidise an inefficient rural farming practice and the Germans applied so that they could rejoin the human race. It was quite funny - I'll now have to search the Tube for it.

Got it!
----------------------------------------James Hacker: Europe is a community of nations, dedicated towards one goal. Sir Humphrey Appleby: [laughs] James Hacker: May we share the joke, Humphrey? Sir Humphrey Appleby: Minister, may I? [sits] Sir Humphrey Appleby: Let's look at this objectively. It is a game played for national interests and always was. Why do you suppose we went into it? James Hacker: To strengthen the brotherhood of free Western nations. Sir Humphrey Appleby: Oh, really. We went in to screw the French by splitting them off from the Germans. James Hacker: Well, why did the French go into it, then? Sir Humphrey Appleby: Well, to protect their inefficient farmers from commercial competition. James Hacker: That certainly doesn't apply to the Germans! Sir Humphrey Appleby: No, no. They went in to cleanse themselves of genocide and apply for readmission to the human race. All clear now?

I have to say, Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister are my favourite comedy TV Shows of all time. Everything they talk about is relevant today!

I made my mind up about Europe about 20 years ago... so I'm not looking forward to four months of dubious and unproven claims and counter-claims by both sides, backed up by shallow and repetitive media coverage which focuses on personalities rather than the real issues.

The media does seem to get over excited with referendums and such to the point where it becomes a turn off. I was too young to vote last time so at last I will get to have my say finally.

Good Morning All. Well it looks like Evo Morales didn't get the country's endorsement for an extra 5 years as he hoped. 73% of the votes have been counted and it's 54% No 46% yes. A bit close for comfort and there is sure to be some protest from the losers. I hope the Latin American passion does not boil over into violence. Now Evo will have to groom a successor.

I await the Brexit referendum with interest. Are you allowed to vote in the EU referendum, Rod, or have you lived in foreign parts for too long?
