What I have done in the past is to set BOINC to snooze then put the computer into hibernate. When I then bring it out of hibernation, BOINC starts up from where it left off and no time lost. Must also use the "leave applications in memory" for that to work I think.

The first check point comes after about 40mins but the 2nd checkpoint can be after 6hours. If you switch your computer off overnight any work completed after CP1, and before CP2 is in place, will be lost!


what about if I put the computer to Sleep or Hibernate rather than shutting it down? housemates won't ever know the difference as its not using any electricity anyways =) Would that mean it wouldn't need the checkpoints?


I don't know! Two options - try it and see or browse the FAQs /CEP2 thread. Since the FAQs resemble an impenetrable maze I'd opt for the first.

Or someone else might pitch in with advice?

Well I will see if the hotel 's WiFi in Harrogate is up to scratch. I will take my laptop tomorrow and see if I can keep in touch with you........even if I cannot I have pre-loaded it with enough to keep it busy and upload when I return! Fingers crossed cool
