Re: Morning Update II

Morning all.

Finally got the "join team" link to appear so will be adding a little to the chocolate point fund, after loading the team page a couple of times, logging in then out then back in again while sat on the team page.

Temperature has been the main problem in my crunching experience. The works machine has just been restarted with BOINC, with a trial run on the choccy project. The office got so hot this summer (even with windows open, fans on) that running the machine flat out meant that the whole performance was terrible. So had to stop it crunching but now it's cooler it can be given a runout and see how it goes.
The home machine has been fine and is running on WCG, at the moment it is the cost of the leccy bill that is really the main reason it is not on all the time.

Re: Morning Update II

The majority of my machines run in an industrially-cooled ISP datacentre, so I'm OK with cooling for those! biggrin

My gaming PC is the only thing that isn't in the same location, but I over-spec'd the cooling for it and have a fan I "can" fit that'd push full-load temps down by another 5C if required. However, given that it runs at around 50dB (which I can hear through two closed doors), that's an absolute last resort!

And welcome to the GPUGrid UK team to fosking! biggrin

Crikey the internet at work this afternoon is flakier than Flakey McFlake, winner of this years Mr Flakey Pastry award.

Re: Morning Update II

What type of connection is it, genhos, and which provider?

And, Scribe, any ideas how often stats update on stats.free-dc.org? Mine still says 180,000 for the UK GPUGrid team, but it's been 306k on the actual GPUGrid site for a while now.

Re: Morning Update II

I think some of the updates are very infrequent, but at least once per day. Your score at GPUGrid was probably just as you created the team and it will take a while to catch up....

Re: Morning Update II

It's a normal adsl broadband connection with plusnet. It's been fine for the last few months after some issues that BT had to fix, it's just this afternoon it's been a right pain! Grrrr.

CEP2

Obviously the BOINC workshop in Grenoble isn't completely occupying knreed wink and he's posted reams of data in response to the question:
Tech query: What is the best CPU for CEP2? Is there a breakdown of hosts running this project? What is the optimal hardware combo? The inverse of that query: if I have a given CPU, for what projects is it best suited? Is there a chart which offers such guidance? Thanks

There are several posts starting here but it makes my brain hurt just looking at it, let alone trying to make some sense of the data! d oh

If someone can come up with a simplified overview or conclusion please share! biggrin

The higher the value in the "credit_per_hour_cep2" column, the better! smile

My CPU (i7-920) with Windows 7 64-bit is the following line (extra spaces added to clarify the columns a bit more):
credit_per_hour_faah credit_per_hour_fahv credit_per_hour_cep2 os_name p_model
139.8 103.6 85.3 Microsoft Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (Intel64 Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 4)

So, from that, I get the following stats:

Credits per hour (FA@H Autodock): 139.8
Credits per hour (FA@H Vina): 103.6
Credits per hour (CEP2): 85.3

Interesting, just had a look through the tables, and found the following:
credit_per_hour_faah credit_per_hour_fahv credit_per_hour_cep2 os_name p_model
136.8 161.1 98.2 Linux Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 4)

So, by converting from Windows 7 64-bit to Linux, my credit-per-hour ratings on FA@V would sky-rocket and my CEP2 equivalent would also go up a decent amount.
