So whats everybody up to tonight? =) 1) Tintinnabulation 2) Drinking beer (no, I won't say, it wasn't that great tonight) 3) Eating spicy ginger tray-bake with a teaspoon (don't ask) Actually it's not been the best of Thursday evenings. [Well, you did ask!] |

just one question for some of you longtime crunchers, how much damage does crunching do to a computer? The only problem was an old laptop running XP 24/7 for about 18 months. Mid summer it kept overheating and eventually was put out of it's misery since it was taking 12hrs to run a WU that took 4 hrs on my desktop. I'm no expert but I think keeping an eye on temperatures is a good idea. |

this might be a silly question, but its the only thing I can think of... your not in another team already are you? ;) gingerbread man sounds might awesome, I'm about to have one last smoke and then go to sleep, got an early start and a busy day at work tomorrow just one question for some of you longtime crunchers, how much damage does crunching do to a computer? both CPU and GPU? I know obviously it running at max capacity for long periods of time is gonna make a difference, and I'm happy with that, but I don't want it to make a considerable difference haha, at the moment I probably crunch about 12-16 hours a day, as my housemates get funny about my PC being on overnight, but when its on its crunching nonstop, is that likely to harm it severely in any way?? have you guys had things go wrong with yours? =D Not going to put me off crunching as I really think this is an amazing idea, will just make me more careful with my crunching haha My 1st ever (what I consider), serious crunching PC (Q6650, or something like that), began crunching in mid 2009 and it has had some stoppages (more recently due to rising costs of Elecy), but the only component that I have had to replace is the PSU. Yes I have had failures on more recent systems, but I put that down to 1) Win 7 instability (which has been cured), & 2) cheap components used in cheap PC's (which won't happen again as my next system will be a full self build), so really, despite 24/7 running through sometimes, punishing temperatures and humidity, only the PSU has been effected by long term crunching (cheap & easy to replace), the CPU / GPU & Motherboard on that system still works as well as it ever did. That said, I do try as much as possible to keep the systems as cool as possible. 1) A minimum of 2 extra fans (not inc CPU or PSU fans). 2) Both sides removed for maximum air flow and heat escape. 3) All PC's next to a constantly open window (and when ever possible, all windows & doors in all rooms upstairs open, to maximize air flow in to and out of the office). ![]() ![]() |

Can see you on the list now but when I go to the UK team page I can see there are 3 members but still no link to join. Think will need to post on their messageboard to try and find out what's going on. .... That is probably the solution....... ![]() |

GPUGrid has been successfully added to the BOINC wide set of team UK. If members are also crunching at other projects and there is no team UK there, please creat one
