Re: Morning Update II

I did find it a little frustrating during the HCC GPU run that I only had 2 PCIe slots available - being able to buy a 2TFLOP supercomputer on a card for less than £200 and generate over 500k points per day was quite compelling, but I could only run 2 because I didn't have anywhere to put any more.

As it turns out, it probably wasn't a bad thing. If I'd bought more they'd have been idle once the project ended. I do have a couple of free slots now though, but won't be filling them until a new GPU project comes along. Apparently AMD are releasing new cards next month, and both NVIDIA and AMD will be releasing 20nm cards when TSMC have their fabs up and running.

Also, we've got HSA from AMD, Intel, Samsung & Co next year (with the first iteration in the PS4 and Xbox One later this year), along with NVIDIA's equivalent shared memory model. We could wind up with the CPU just sitting in the middle providing PCIe lanes and memory channels while the GPUs do all the work.

Whatever happens, it'll be an interesting year or two. Kind of reminds me of the early '90s when the FPU came on a separate chip (anyone have a 387?).

Once GPU projects become more readily available here, I will invest in some decent GPUs. As I don't play any games, I can't justify buying them without a good cause at the moment. Not planning on buying any serious CPU power until Haswell E becomes available, as the roadmap for Ivybridge E looks disappointing. Come on AMD, we need some serious competition for Intel.

Re: Morning Update II

I have just realised that I am now up to 6 projects with more than five years runtime. Just need to get The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 there to make seven:

6,037,202 : 5,159 : 4:196:00:39:28

Re: Morning Update II

Some big scores there chaps, nicely done.

@IanUK - it does seem odd that boincstats doesn't show you on the all projects list but also seems to be confusing you with xpplayer. Hmmmm thinking

Just picked up another SNS unit but still leaves me a couple of days short on getting to 180days.

Morning Update III

Special mention for gordoncarruthers who returned 19.7 RTd (Avg 6.5) for the morning

*RTd = RunTime (days)

For the full day gordoncarruthers returned 23.6 RTd missing a new RunTime PB by 0.2!

Possibly a clearing out of the P/V gaol or, just maybe, a new bit of kit! wink Maybe he can share the reason with us when he next visits the thread.

gordoncarruthers was not the only one contributing to the spike in the UK team's performance:

SnaxMuppet is back in harness contributing 3.7 (more to come hopefully)

and

themoonscrescent returns to form after the equipment failure returning 29.8

The loss of the short running SN2S WUs means the ETA for the team's 3,000,000 Results Milestone has slipped from November 2013 to January 2014.
