Re: In Other News

I agree JonnieB with your thought of why people have stopped crunching that the lack of projects will be a factor. Which then leads on to the communication, as it would be nice for a post of some description even if it all it proves is that tech/admins/boffins are still awake wink

While FAAH should keep people from running dry, a little variety would be good, or maybe we got too used to a variety of projects here? I seem to recall BarnsleyTatts saying they had signed up elsewhere for GPU work to crunch.

Re: Morning Update II

Aaaaargh these recent CEP2 units are huge. Just noticed the last one I completed took 9.5 hours to do job#2. It timed out before it completed job#6 and that was with it running without any interruption on a 2.8gz core. I only do one at a time but the last few have taken at least 7hours on job#2.

While I'm waiting for nosh to cook, just had a look at http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/list/0/0/34360/0 and noticed a name that didn't ring any bells. Vividium, turns out this is 3thinking on here but used a different name over at GPUgrid. Timcw is 7th in alltime stats due to his GPUgrid stats but 38th for WCG.

I wonder if there are other UK members running on other projects, whether it would be worth looking into trying to get this UK team on to those other projects? Think it is something like a "BOINC wide team" http://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/ so that all results will show against our team. Maybe it will help increase members from those other projects?

Just a thought.

I'm WCG only. wink

Irrespective of whether or not this idea might find favour with team members, the biggest obstacle to overcome would, as always, be communication.

FWIW Timcw has been Inactive on WCG (& the UK team since June 2013

Re: Morning Update II

Afternoon Team smile

I'm WCG Only.

My I7 is finally back up and running, I booted up after the full re-build at 11pm last night (give or take a minuet).

Fitting a new Mobo and re-seating the CPU was easier than I thought it would be, but it was still scary (new territory for me), and it didn't help that the build wasn't completely straight forward.

The CPU Fan took 10 minuets of gentle easing to fit in.

My HD7770 GC was about 1mm too long for me to fit it going straight down and there wasn't quite to room to get a good enough angle on it, so I had to bend the rear of the case slightly to get the angle I needed to fit it.

Once ready to power up, it wouldn't ( crying ), I pulled out and resat the power button cables 4 times before it worked (HDD LED, PWR+, PWR- ect), I followed the printed Mobo Manual 3 times to the letter, the 4th time, I decided to look at the online Manual and discovered a difference, the online manual was slightly different to the printed one, the PWR+ & PWR- cables were the wrong way round in the printed version???, tried it again as per the online version and it worked shock biggrin hugs .

I still need to check that the Bios settings are as they should be??, but it's been running Boinc constantly for over 12 hours and it is so far stable smile

So much for the PC shop telling me that: 1) It was the CPU that was broken and not the Mobo.. 2) Seating a Used CPU in to a New Mobo will probably cause the new Mobo to burn out, once powered up for the 1st time!! I think he needs to go back to PC School and re-learn his job!

Re: Morning Update II

I hate those fiddly little cables that plug between the case and motherboard, have only ever seen one case that actually converted it into a block-connector to make it easier (you plugged the pin-connectors into the block in the required order then plugged the block into the motherboard). Can't remember what the case was, but that was the only good part in a pretty mediocre case.

Only doing WCG now, and don't intend to change. If anyone else wants to join other projects its up to them. It was however interesting to look at the BOINC "All Projects" stats page as it shows a few difficulties with compiling multiple project stats. It looks like BOINC User Numbers apparently are not unique to users, like I had thought, so it would be difficult to compile reliable "all project" stats.

The BOINC "All Projects" stats page misses out many team members, including myself. Apparently BOINCStats thinks there are more people who have contributed to WCG than All Projects including WCG thinking Suspect I don't appear in the list as xpplayer from Germany, who crunches Einstein project, apparently has the same BOINC User Number as myself sick.
