Re: Workunits

Thank you for the kind words about my stats website. I still have the code and the schema that describes the database. In theory I could redeploy it, and after about a month the stats would all be fully populated just as before. It's all fully automatic including generating signatures for team members. However, I know from nearly 40 years of software development experience that it probably wouldn't just simply work. I don't know if the documentation for the WCG APIs has improved (I doubt it) but when I wrote the code in 2015 working out the schema for the data I was pulling down was a bit of a guess, and small changes made by WGC would occasionally cause things to break. Also, my code use Java libraries that are out of date and in some cases discontinued, so some work would be required to keep it secure.

I'm not so disappointed as I was back then when I stopped my stats site, but there still isn't enough enthusiasm within Team UK (or myself) to it worth the effort to restart things and maintain it. If we had two or three more active projects, and a thriving UK forum, I would probably do so.

Re: Workunits

Hope everyone is keeping well. Unfortunately still don't have any work units to process due to the extended downtime, but looking forward to getting back up and running.

Re: Workunits

By the time you read this I will have deleted my WCG account. 101 years of runtime, 375,000 units, and 181m points, accrued since 2009. I've tried to leave before, but I've finally finally finally had enough. The fun has gone, and I'm doubting the importance of the research - no one seems too bothered about this long outage, least of all Krembil it seems.

It's been fun communicating with many of you, and best wishes for the future. Maybe I'll see some of you at FAH.

Dave

Edit: It was clearly overly optimistic to assume that the "Delete Account" facility would actually work!!! I guess I'm still here, for now, whether I like it or not! For anyone interested, the URL when you click the button returns a "403 Forbidden" status. I'd love to report it, but the Contact form doesn't work either.

Bit like a line from Hotel California, by the Eagles - You can check out, but you can never leave... ;)

Re: Workunits

Hey all.

Like everyone else, waiting for news on when the download of new work will start again.

I am surprised that there is little here on the WCG site about it, I know that https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html has some info, but still seems a bit odd to have so little mention of an update on here.

In the meantime I've been doing some Milkyway and Einstein units.
I see that there is a "uk" team over at FAH, looking on Free-dc stats that team is separate from our UK one which has scores for WCG, Einstein, Milkyway, Asteroids and LHC among others.

Re: Workunits

I have noticed that the system will SOMETIMES get additional WU's if you force a poll. But if you let it sit there and wait for it to happen on its own, you will have a long wait.

Re: Workunits

The ones I have got have been due to the natural request to WCG, so got lucky yesterday as nothing since.
Especially as the system is getting itself back up and running them I'm happy to let the client request as and when, if I get some then great but if not then there's always next time.
