Re: Team UK

Good morning all.
Ten days to go and I'm off to visit my son in The Bahamas for 3 weeks. I'm keeping my iMac going at home and hopefully will get new batteries for my 15" MBP so that will go with me.

Re: Team UK

Mamajuanauk , You where majestic in your day, no one could get close to you.
Times have changed as it always does, and Team UK is lucky enough to have a number of heavy duty crunchers who have been with us for a while, even I got a threadripper which has upped my stats tremendously.
People come and go and circumstances change but Team UK goes on.
Who knows what the future may bring.

If I win the lottery, I will heat my house with computer power :)

My old "dream" plan for when I move house was going to be to get a little 12U cabinet in an air-con-cooled cupboard somewhere in the house, drop a rack-mounted router/switch & UPS into it, and then start to slowly fill it up with decent rack-mounted servers that would just plug away at work-units.

I apparently have lots of "dream plans" like that, which take AGES to happen or never happen at all, the first of which seems to be the most important for all of those plans - actually moving house in the first place! biggrin

One day, hopefully, one day...

Re: Team UK

Mamajuanauk Whether you are crunching at a lower level now or (perish the yhought) have lost interest in team UK, we must acknowledge that we are building largely on your foundations and for that I am eternally grateful. Please do not be a stranger. You have an interesting story to tell and one day, when you are ready, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks DTS, but my story isn't that interesting. I had an interest, that I developed into a passion, I was fortunate enough to be earning well and could indulge that passion! Unfortunately things change and as they say "All good things come to an end"..

I'm still crunching, albeit not on WCG at the moment, I'm doing some work on the projects that got ignored while I was doing WCG, but still projects I want to contribute to...

I'll still be about and pop up here now and again...

Keep up the great work all see you soon...

tongue Re: Team UK

Mamajuanauk and Stoneageman are 2 crunchers that we definitely look up too. The results that both of these guys/accounts have achieved speak for themselves.

Thargor: We run a 25U server rack; in truth these have their pros and cons, although more pros in our opinion (apart from GPU boxes which are better in mining rigs).

DarkMatter.NI: Too many films to mention!

Cutting down to 5 is difficult to do,I could probably do a top 100 from memory.

Fight Club
Snatch
Airplane
History of the World:: Part 1
Star wars
Jaws
Blazing Saddles
Vanishing point (Original)
Deliverance
Mad max

... on and on.

If anyone has a film that they like that is not mainstream, I'd love to know about it.

Some films in 2017/2018 that I thought were pretty good:

    Calibre
    Hostiles
    The Debt Collector
    Braven
    Den of Thieves
    Ready Player One
    The Meg
    Skyscraper
    Escape Plan 2: Hades
Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri

    The Mountain Between Us
    Raw
    Whose Streets?
All the Money in the World
    The Post
    Wind River
    Baby Driver
    Dunkirk
    Blade Runner 2049
    The Lost City of Z

There is a comprehensive list of 2018 including some non-mainstream films here:

Well said! We have some members which produce stats that are hard to believe as being possible. I have been fortunate in the past to have had a few machines at my disposal but could only produce a fraction of the stats. These days I only have a handful so milestones take much longer to reach! Keep up the excellent work everyone and hopefully Santa will bring a few threadrippers this Christmas!
