OK You guys! I'm just browsing the pages of this forum, and see the challenges Team UK are currently involved in. Well I always loved a challenge! Can't say how long I can stay involved, but I'm in for now!

Unfortunately most of my farm is long gone...

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Marathon

Added 20 cores of the server to give us a boost, can't really afford the electricity so will switch them off after the competition ends.

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Marathon

We added some of the other WCG apps to our projects for a couple of days, but are now back to 100% SCC (apart from the very few HSTB work units that arrive, and any existing cached work units).

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Marathon

Some days its just not worth getting out of bed.

I generally refer to those days as "weekdays"...

A weekday to me is just the days with no ice hockey on!
Got a chest and throat infection, shed loads of pain to go with it, not slept properly since Friday. I was just feeling sorry for myself. Getting better now.

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Marathon

Well, I was moping about the house looking for something to do when I noticed there was a lot off dust on my router, so I cleaned it then saw lots more dust at the back of my computer, opened it up to find a huge amount everywhere inside.
So I checked with CPUID and my cores were running below 3ghz, ouch.
Cleaned it all up and now running at 3.5ghz. Will have to keep an eye on it as it has 4 big fans and it must be sucking every bit of dust from the room.

Re: Smash Childhood Cancer Marathon

The time has come to get rid of win10 and move back to Linux, LMDE 3 and Elementay 5 are distro's that I'm considering.

I love the quickness of Elementary and even though it feels a bit constricted the GUI is quick, neat and tidy, and consistant, something that most distros do not give enough attention.

LMDE is very good and stable, being a rolling release there is no need to do a tricky version update, something that should be implimented on all distros.

Might give AVLinux a try also.
Going to give each a week to see how they work out.

Can anyone recommend a distro (non mainstream) that is worth trying out?

Glad to hear that your computer is feeling better, and hopefully you will too soon, Steve DMNI.
