Good morning all
----------------------------------------Dave don't you dare quit! You are the statistics maester! And besides you are only 17 million points away from the heady 10^8 level. Keep crunching!

It's great when a project comes around that you really have a personal affinity with dmni. The microbiome stuff is pretty interesting too. I heard something the other day that suggested that Caesarian babies had poorer immune systems because they weren't being exposed to the necessary creepy crawlies during the birthing process (or something like that, can't quite remember). Back in the good old days, kids used to go outside and eat soil and stuff, and I'm sure it was mostly good for them ![]() My son was delivered by Caesarian and has only had a couple of colds and that virus that everyone had, meanwhile, a friends baby girl caught everything going for the first 3 years of her life, took until her 4th birthday before I saw her with a clean nose! I remember eating all sorts of rubbish, never did me much harm other than a dodgy tummy for a day or two. I have to tell you this story, every bit is true. We were in bed, Daniel walked into our bedroom and complained about a sore tummy, my wife (Who has a strong sense of smell) could not feel anything wrong, took his temperature and it was a tiny bit on the high side and decided to give him some Calpol, Daniel did not want to take it which was unusual because he loves it. The wife practically forced it into his mouth, then he vomited, projectile style, all over the wife, and our bed, 3 times. It was like a scene from the Exorcist. I stood watching in amazement, the wife holding Daniel at arms length both covered in vomit. Then the wife started gagging and vomited over Daniel, I had to take over, clean up the boy and the bed while the wife was vomiting in the toilet. Had to take Daniel to a Dalriada doctor some 10 miles away, she did not find anything wrong with him. I really wished I had a video of it. To this day wifey cannot laugh at it. DC You know you can't retire, crunching is a very good reason to keep buying better hardware!. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Aug 30, 2017 11:48:04 PM] |

Steve it sounds like you have had rather a lot of (medical) bad luck in your family - I hope that you both can recover sufficiently to live reasonably comfortable lives. I grew up with a chronically ill mother and a father who developed arthritis and early onset diabetes in his 40s - neither parent made it past 60 years old and here I am pushing 69 - every year is a bonus. Keep up the positive thoughts - I really believe it helps. I am actually quite healthy apart from the nerve damage and lung issues. My sister who is 2 years younger has heart issues. My dad should have died 20 years ago, his medical problems alone could fill a book, all of his 3 brothers died from heart attacks. I must take after my mums side as I have the heart of a 30yr old, its in a jar, on my desk :) ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Aug 30, 2017 11:58:38 PM] |

Belated Happy Birthday for yesterday, Tom! Hope you enjoyed your quiet day!
----------------------------------------I was very thankful to pass on the work on-call phone to the next person in the rota, it'd been a manic week but now a relaxing weekend to recuperate! ![]() ![]() |

Spent two great days in Portrush, First day of the air show today.
----------------------------------------Saw a Mig 15, Catalina flying boat, Huey Helicopter, Euro Typhoon, Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire, and various aerobatic teams. All were impressive but I loved the Catalina and the Typhoon the best. Lots of good food and drink, lovely sunny day for once, had a great time. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Sep 2, 2017 10:39:04 PM] |
