Re: This is the official SLASHDOT thread

Wow, you've got impressive computers.
BTW: don't you think we should try to contact more ./ers, using the comments in the previous ./ news ? Many then complained that there was no Linux client, but the news has been completely missed this time: there are surprisingly few comments.
It's true that the ability to support multiple cores was not mentioned, and only regular readers of this board could know without following many links.

Re: This is the official SLASHDOT thread

Yeah I know.. I did a full blown post mentioning all the techie details of the client, but it got rejected. That was long before the post finally appeared. These moderators are so utterly stupid.

Well To all new people who joined: Let`s kick ass! :) Now, if only my client could actually CRUNCH on some jobs. I don`t get any since ages..

We seemed to have gained at least some more members, and the crunchrate has picked up as well. How strong can we kick back?

Re: This is the official SLASHDOT thread

Indeed, the amount of CPU time given by Team Slashdot members has risen a bit. But I think we cannot do much more, since the Slashdot news was nearly completely missed this time. Resubmitting one now won't yield anything, since it's more than likely to be rejected again... Maybe when the WCG has also a Windows BOINC Client ?
The news should be technical, like you did it, and I think it should also contain an incentive like that of the 2004/12/31 news:
"
IBM's World Community Grid is off to a roaring start. Since kicking off six weeks ago (original Slashdot story), the grid has grown to almost 36,000 users with almost 50,000 machines. Growth continues as more media coverage hits. There is a team of Slashdot users - currently ranked 13th in points with only 79 members. If you have spare cycles, download the software, join us and crank for medicine. For those of you with dual processor systems, you'll have to use a homebrewed tool - beyond two is not supported yet. Alas, you also have to be running Redmond's finest. According to their FAQ, a Linux client is slated for development in 2005.
"
[EDIT: fixed a typo]

Re: This is the official SLASHDOT thread

Well, took another shot at a story submission about the new project that got rejected. Anyone have any pull with the /. editors?

Re: This is the official SLASHDOT thread

... Does anyone have another idea ?
I don't like Digg! because it is unmoderated (S/N ratio therefore too bad) and the user base is not of the quality of that of Slashdot, but you can always try to post something there. If it reaches the main page, it will help WCG.
