Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

solved on my side, too. Thanks for the hint with the event log. It told me, that there's not enough space left on the device.

Could you maybe allow installing the app also on an sd card? The app required some 100MB extra memory, which I only had after cleaning up the cache of other apps, etc.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

That will be enabled in a future Berkeley release, so is the plan. Till then, nothing can force this. One user reported of an app he used to install BfA to the SD, but he could not get BfA to run a task [search forum for what app that was].

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

Grasor - thank you for continuing to help us. We are able to solve problems that we are reproduce locally pretty easily. It is those that we can't reproduce locally that are harder. Having someone who provides the information we ask for really helps us.

Can you go to Preferences -> BOINC Client log flags and select

'android_debug'
'task_debug'
'cpu_sched_debug'
'work_fetch_debug'

and then click save.

Next go to the projects tab and touch 'World Community Grid'. A dialog called 'Project Commands' will appear. Select 'Update'.

On the World Community Grid line, you will see it say something a sequence of:

1) Scheduler request pending
2) Scheduler request in progress
3) Communication scheduled in: 00:XX (it is a timer counting down)

Once the count down expires, then go to menu button -> Event log

scroll down a bit so you get a nice selection of the log file
post what you get

thank you!

Sorry the delay, it was a long weekend and I just got back on the forum today. I have started what you requested but am getting a 24 hour countdown timer after hitting update! Never seen that before, so I'll try again in an hour but it might be until tomorrow before I get results.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

Alright, after several minutes I tried updating again (I'm impatient...) and it made the connection and updated. I checked the log and didn't see anything different so I checked the checked items from the debug list that knreed requested but they weren't checked. I checked them again, and selected "save" and then opened up the list again and they still weren't checked. Should the debug options stay checked or do they default to unchecked each time the window is opened?

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

Update: It occurred to me that data storage space might be the issue. It shouldn't since, the internal storage capacity is 6.45 GB available, but heck, already wasn't working so I gave it a shot.

I adjusted the minimum spare storage from 0.1 GB to 0.0 GB and performed an update. And BAM, works now. Just started working on a FAAH work unit.

My guess is that the field that matters for this setting is the "Application Data Storage" field which this particular phone only has 149 MB max and only had ~90 MB available. Thus, BOINC couldn't request work because it didn't have permission to download additional data.

Still confused as to why the BOINC Client Log Flags keep unchecking themselves, this might have been easier to figure out if I could get those working, but seems like I'm up an running now! I'll plug this in and leave it on my desk and just let it run.

Might that have been a data storage space issue as well? I.e. there was no spare space for writing the changed configuration data? Now that it's processing ok, does a change of log flags stay changed?

Well, the saga appears to continue. I checked the phone this morning and it was no longer processing and was back to it's "Nothing To Do" "Waiting For Tasks" situation from before. Performing an update did not help.

At this point I tried detaching WCG from BOINC on the phone, clearing the BOINC app data, and uninstalling/reinstalling. I again tried attaching and setting the Client Log flags but no joy there.

This time I set my minimum storage to 0.0 GB and reset the value for "Pause at CPU Usage Above X" to 90% instead of 0% - which I may have erroneously thought a 0% value would just make it run all the time like some of the other BOINC settings on the PC side. I also changed "Daily Transfer Limit" to 1000 MB from the default of 0.0 MB (I had done this before uninstalling so this was no change). Thus the only change from the previous installation was that I changed the "Pause at CPU Usage Above X" from 0% to 90%.

After performing an update, it downloaded several work units and started processing FAAH again. laughing

The Client Log Flags still do not persist. Do they persist for anyone else?

I'll keep you guys posted if things change.

No, they are unchecked each time I pull them up regardless how I last used them.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

I am getting the same as others. No work, tries to fetch but nothing happens. I don't even see my device here in Device manager, only remnants of old information from a computer I used to use, but nothing about my phone. Should I be seeing it here on the website?

If you've attached the device to WCG it should show up in your "Device Profiles" list. It hasn't returned any work yet, so it won't show up on your statistics page. Is it in the device profiles page?
