Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

not sure where it's gone wrong, but it downloaded the projects, it had access to wifi, it's plugged in.
Status says "nothing to do, waiting for tasks"
Projects says " World community grid "Username" Credit 0 (on this device)"
Tasks is blank
Transfers is blank
and under preferences I've set the min battery level to below what the current battery level is.

So really stumped as to what it's waiting for, start crunching.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

If there is an 'Update' button as there is on the PC version of BOINC, suggest to hit that and see what the event log prints.

Plz post a copy as we're interested to see them, either good or bad, as samples we can reference in future queries.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

same problem here - Huawei U8860, Android 4, ICS.
The update button doesn't help - it quickly shows:

"Scheduler request pending, Requested by user, scheduler request in process"

nothing else, no changes.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

Same problem. Android Incredible HTC, plugged in, has WIFI access. Has not received a task since I configured this in the past 12 hours. I did a factory reset prior to installing BOINC and no other apps have been installed outside of updates. OS is version 4.08. Android version is 2.3.4.

It will remain plugged in, it's just an old cell phone and I thought this would be a good use for it instead of trashing it or letting Verizon buy it back for a whopping $1.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

Yes, those phone buy-backs, when the gold in these things is worth 10x that price alone, wholesale prices that is.

Think we need some detail device logging to find out what makes these devices go "Scheduler request pending, Requested by user, scheduler request in process" as was reported above. Suggests you may not get passed some security verification/handshake step, but that'd be odd given that of course you successfully hooked up the device to your WCG account. Whilst, mobile devices to not necessarily connect from the same point and 'a' phone-co agent may be consorting. Can think of a few things given the contortions I at times have to make to get my laptop hooked up while on the road or at a hotspot.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

I had the same issue when starting. Was updating and updating and nothing happend. But when I finally found "event log" - don't really understand why that function is hidden so well - I found the reason.

In my case it was because it connected to the "default" device profile, and FAAH wasn't selected for that profile - I hadn't used that profile for ages... blushing

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

Interesting and puzzling, as then the device would report something like "no work available for..." in the event log. Anyway, worth a try.

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

For all who are reporting that their Android client doesn't have work, Please go to 'Preferences' and check the box labelled 'Show advanced preferences and controls'. Next, please click on the 'Menu' button and select 'Event log'. Please report what it says as that will help us understand what is going on. Thanks!

Re: Android BOINC "Nothing To Do"

When there's an issue, event log 'reading' is the most important thing to get out of the woods. What I see is...

1) The number of usable CPU cores is changing seemingly random [not relevant to topic though]
2) Seemingly FA@H is not selected in the home device profile, or in superseding reset of all individual profiles via My Projects [I use that one a lot to change all profiles in one fell swoop for the science selection part].

Separately, I think it's scary that the GPU functions of BOINC for Android have not disabled by default.

Thu Jul 25 18:57:53 AEST 2013||don't use GPU while active

edit: To add another thing of puzzling logic is suspending computing when CPU load [non-BOINC] is greater than 50%, yet also the setting is there to suspend computing when user is active. Is anyone impaired when the device is not being used? If not, either set suspend work to 0 [means no limit], or set Computing to when in use and let the program suspend when there's really a greater than 50% load [the % is WCG default BTW, for when computing when in use]

Thu Jul 25 18:24:47 AEST 2013||suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 50 %
Thu Jul 25 18:24:47 AEST 2013||don't compute while active

Maybe the techs have a logic for this combination, if default [we like to understand, else we can't be 'advisors']
