Re: Boinc for android problem

@ Belmarduk : Great. Please post the messages that verify that maX disk usage is now 4GB instead of 0MB.

@ markop619 : Please do not run on phone batteries or BOINC will quickly destroy them and you will hate us. Even the heavier laptop batteries are fragile. Phone batteries need a lot of progress. BOINC will run on a plugged in phone once the batteries reach 90% charge.

Hi Lawrence
On the website setting for the PC clients - Have always had that setting - Always worked for the PC(s) - Only on the Samsung there is nowhere to set it exept the 2 settings I mentioned earlier.
It seems my phone is not compatible with mobile Boinc atm :(

Re: Boinc for android problem

My understanding is that the Android version is quite dressed down... for instance no cc_config.xml. Read that the APK will have all reference to this file and Global_Prefs_Override.xml removed, meaning, unless there's an interface item to set, no adjusting.
Android: Remove <task_debug/> from the default list of debug flags installed with the client. At some point we need to remove cc_config.xml and global_prefs_override.xml from the APK.

In how far website device profile prefs transfer to the Android host... pass. Hack the path in where BOINC is installed [path printed in event log] and see if there is a global_prefs.xml and what it contains [plz post copy for us to learn about this element]

Hello Belmarduk,
Tue Jul 23 14:50:01 MESZ 2013||Reading preferences override file

I can't help but think that somewhere you have set some command that sets your max disk usage to 0MB. Why do you need a preferences override file for your phone?

Re: Boinc for android problem

I am having the same problem. Lots of space in the SD card, but BOINC still says there is not enough space. I have 70 MB free in the phone, but more than a 1 Gb in my SD card.

Re: Boinc for android problem

Hello Caravaggio,
Could you post your startup messages describing your system so we can see what your max disk usage is? FAAH requires 100MB. Does your system show 0MB, 70MB or 1 GB?

Re: Boinc for android problem

Greetings,

Currently the application is designed to run on the internal system storage. The device does not use the SD card for storage. The developers are working on a way to have it use the SD card for storage instead of the internal storage.

Think of your SD card as an external hard drive, we by default are using the internal one.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: Boinc for android problem

Hi! I run Boinc on my smartphone and I try it to run on battery but battery need to be charged very soon because Boinc eats it very much. But I noticed something, when I put my mobile on charger projects are not running, I think when mobile is full charged and left on charger. I have checked box run on battery. Maybe I need to untick this option when I put my mobile on charger?

As lawrence mentioned, be default it is set to not run when either of these things happens.

1. The device is not plugged in.
2. The battery level is not at 90%

These can easily be changed via the settings in the device.

1. There is a check box that you see on the default preferences to run on battery.

2. You will need to select "show advanced preferences" check box to see this value. It is originaly 90% and can be changed. The reason for this is to allow your battery to charge as quickly as possible up to a high value before pulling some of the power to run the science applications. Lets say your device gets 5 watts of power from the wall. When your device is idle it may pull 1 watt. But when running science applications it pulls 3 watts. As you can see in idle, that leaves 4 watts of power to go towards charging your battery. Whereas when active, it only has 2 watts of power, thus a slower charge.

NOTE: All power values above are just for demonstration, not actual values...

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: Boinc for android problem

Thanks Lawrence and uplinger. I have Galaxy Nexus. Do you recommend that I have default settings, mobile plugged in and not crunching if the battery is not charged on 90 %? If I am at home all day for example, can I have my phone plugged in to crunch or this is not recommended to have mobile phone on charger always? Of course, if I go out I will unplugged my phone and crunch when I came home. Thank you guys.
