Clean energy project is back to 0

Hi! I opt all projects in my grid and I run all of them but I noticed that when I turn off my computer Clean energy project is back to 0 and he starts from beginning, I run this project for 3 days and it is not finishing. With other projects this is not happening and they starts from they stopped last night. No errors in messages and no high cpu usage that computation is suspended for some reason. What is the reason for that?

Re: Clean energy project is back to 0

markop619, CEP2 is a special "opt-in" project that is this way due to it having special requirements - most notably, very long intervals between checkpoints (unfortunately, there is no way around this). Indeed, depending on your hardware, this could be 5, 6 or even 7 hours in length, during which, if you switch your machine off, no checkpoint will be made - thus, starting that phase of the procedure all over again.

One option that could circumvent this scenario from happening, is to use the Hibernate option to shut/move your computer as well as ensuring that you've got the box "Leave applications in memory while suspended" ticked.

Re: Clean energy project is back to 0

I have this option ticked, I use grid always, not only when I am idle. I also ticked use GPU while computer is in use. When I put in hibernate mode my computer, CP2 will be running or not? Only way that CEP2 is not starts from beginning is that I don't shut down my computer. Can I have my computer always switch on? Because when I run this project for 16 hours and I shut down my computer and when I turn it on I am angry when I see that everything I need to crunch from beginning. Thank you very much on your answer.

Either de-select CEP or leave your PC running 27/7, it is the only way with these WUs I find

Hi Scribe, where do you find those extra 21 hours in a week - I could certainly utilise them biggrin

Re: Clean energy project is back to 0

markop619, Hibernate is very similar to actually shutting your computer off (in a controlled manner) - except, an image of what was in it's memory is stored to disc, so that, when it's restarted again, everything is simply reloaded from disc (and hence, a lot quicker to restart). This could be used (as I did when I was moving my machine between home and work) when your machine is going to be in transit.

If you can leave your computer on 24/7, then that, as Scribe has alluded to, is the best way to run these particular WU's.

Thanks guys, I will leave my computer to work 24/7. Does anyone from you do like that?

Hello markop619,
The first checkpoint takes only a few minutes to reach. The second (or maybe third) checkpoint might take 4 hours. So you may have other problems. Make sure that your profile is set to keep running if at all possible. If something suspends your thread, be sure that "Leave Application in memory" is set to Yes. CEP2 requires long run time and maximum throughput profile settings.
