Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

World Community work units just started up again on my computers. Linux is using my preferences set on World Community Grid, and other Boinc projects, but my Windows 7 computer is not. I am having to set my preferences on Windows 7 in the drop down activity box to get it to run the way I want it to.

I still have not tried my other computers, but hopefully now I can run World Community Grid again.

Lawrence, thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

Hi forward,
I understand having difficulty with computer jargon. Clipboard goes back to early 90's Windows. It just means copy to the computer memory. The way to do this is to 'select' a chunk of text. [Grin] Move the mouse to the start of some text, push down the left button on the mouse, then move to the end of the text. The selected text should be highlighted. Then right-click on the mouse. This should open a menu box. Click on COPY. This will copy the text to the clipboard (save the text in memory). Then move the mouse to where you want to insert the copied text, right-click on the mouse, and click on PASTE. This is called a COPY and PASTE operation. The CUT and PASTE operation is similar except that it deletes the text after copying it into memory (to the clipboard).

biggrin There are many different ways to say the same thing in Windows. Isn't this GREAT! wink

Lawrence

Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

I encounter the same issue on one of my Win7 boxes, which didn't return a result since 15th May, other systems (Win7 and others) keep cranking out results. The one Win7 box that I have is the only one that can do GPU processing. Also, around the same time I updated the Boinc client. I followed the suggestions in this thread, changed the device profile accordingly, and then went ahead to reset the project in Boinc. All I get is downloads for a good number of .png and .gif files, but no tasks. I do run rosetta on all systems, so it is not that my resources are totally unused.

Here is the start portion of my log:

Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

Try detaching and then adding WCG again. IIRC something is set in the clients [hopefully fixed in the final WCG client, now in alpha v7.0.66, but not the last one, I'm pretty sure].

edit(2): OK, ripped this from the development notes
2) We identified an issue with <no_rsc_apps>NVIDIA</no_rsc_apps>, <no_rsc_apps>ATI</no_rsc_apps>, <no_rsc_apps>intel_gpu</no_rsc_apps>, <no_rsc_apps>CPU</no_rsc_apps> tag in the scheduler reply. Specifically, if you received those - even erroneously, you couldn't clear them. You had to detach and reattach. David checked in a fix on both the client and server but I need to look at the details. This was backported to the client_release/7/7.0b branch"

Meaning this was coded in for the future 7.2 client, but integrated back into the 7.0b branch, from which WCG is still developing their 'should be real WCG LTS 7.0.xx [long term support] client, with helical skin.

Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

Reattaching did the trick. Thanks for the tip!

Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

Good to know it worked around the issue. Not aware of a hack on the client side to avoid this sequence, which re-downloads all selected WCG science apps again... The note mentions a change needed making both on client and server side [we're now on server version 701].

Re: No Tasks Available for Seven Projects?

I had the same problem yesterday. It fixed itself after a few minutes.
