Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and usually don't have the time BUT Over the past 3-4 days I have been setting up a 3 computer BOINC system after having a break for some 6 months or so. My question is why SUSPENDING PROCESSING in realith means ABORTING - I nearly had a page of projects ready for processing (i.e. waiting in the queue) when I had to do a reboot on my i7 to set up a garage network of 3 x pc's all running World Community Grid BOINC Manager I paused ALL the files (running & waiting etc) on my i7 Win 7 PC. Imagine my surprise when, things came back up and I couldn't get the suspended ones back running again, they all were taken from the tasks area and went back to the bit bucket in the sky, never to return !! What is going on - am I doing something wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great to find out if I am doing it wring on how to pause, reboot and restart my pc again Roger Brisbane Australia |

Personally I do not know what happened, but.......I would NOT have paused/suspended, I would have just re-booted, whenever I do that the WU's continue from the last checkpoint

Hey Roger, I've never had the experience you describe. The procedure I usually follow if the OS must be taken down, is to first close BOINC manager using the option which is offered in the dialog box to stop the science processing also. I think that produces a more "graceful" exit for the programs, which are running in the background. Then close the OS. Paul

Hello Roger@Brisbane,
Welcome to the Forum! That problem has never happened to me. I am usually cautious and SUSPEND the World Community Grid project, then reboot. Occasionally I am in a hurry and just reboot. Either way, all the tasks start up from the last saved check point. I think that something went wacky with your software environment. The reboot should have cured it. If it still happens, then we need to investigate, starting with a reinstall and then looking at your startup BOINC message file. Lawrence |
