Why we should mistrust the government It should come as no surprise that President Obama told Ohio State students at graduation ceremonies last week that they should not question authority and they should reject the calls of those who do.

Gun Violence Down 49% Since 1993 Peak Despite Public Perception Of High Crime
----------------------------------------A new study shows that U.S. gun violence rates have dropped by half in the 20 years since 1993’s all-time high for gun homicides. But the American public seems largely unaware of these falling gun homicide rates. According to a new in-depth study by Pew Research, Americans responded to two separate polls by overwhelmingly stating that gun violence has increased since 1993. When asked about trends in gun violence, 56 percent of Americans responded that violence had gone up, 26 percent said that it had stayed the same, and only 12 percent stated, correctly, that gun violence had gone down. http://www.ibtimes.com/gun-violence-down-49-1...eption-high-crime-1243671 |

We all have opinions and here is mine.
----------------------------------------Some and I repeat just some of the issues that effect this country in a negative way are: 1) A huge influx of people over the last 30 years from countries where they weren't brought up with the work ethic that I was given and taught as a child back in the 1950's. Having my father tell me "You get what you work for and don't expect anyone to give you anything" and then seeing him work at one company for 47 years and I can't ever remember him taking a day off. Seeing my mother work between the six children to achieve their goals of owning a nice single family middle class home in a decent neighborhood. These things were the work of a lifetime and not accomplished in just a few years. 2) Seeing more and more people that just want handouts. That aren't willing to work the menial jobs and work their way up in society. I can remember standing at 6am on Christmas morning "sticking" the tanks at a gas station because I got double time for the day. Did I want to be there? No, but you do what you have to in order to get ahead. That was over 40 years ago but I remember that morning as it was dead zero out, windy as all heck and the gas was evaporating before I could get a reading off the stick. 3) Political greed. Politicians have been thieves forever but in the past they at least tried to hide that greed but today they aren't satisfied with being worth 10-20 million dollars, they want to be billionaires and at our expense. 4)Political power and that goes for both parties but the Dems seem to have this one down pat as their are many more have not's than haves..Conservative political philosophy seems to be lost and we now have a nation that is essentially bankrupt because Bush Jr ignored or forgot the simple rule that in times of war income taxes have to go up to pay for that war..LBJ got around this same rule by taking social security from it's own dedicated fund and tossing it into the general fund. Obama is doing the same, war without increased income taxes. I'll finish by saying that until the masses get educated that the USA is not a promise but an opportunity then this nation will continue to go downhill. We have to make changes and those changes have to be made by national binding referendum questions such as a forced balanced budget amendment, term limits and one thing I think is mandatory is overturning the SCOTUS ruling concerning political PACS. One man/woman=$2500.00 donation and thats it.. Elliminate all PACS.No group should be able to generate hundreds of millions to force their ideas on what is an increasingly politically ignorant public. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Movieman at May 10, 2013 3:20:52 AM] |
