Bearcat: do a search on the model numbers and save it with email alerts - that's what I did - they come up more often than you think, but you have to be ready and get in there and bid, or if it's buy it now, snap them up before they're gone. What I do is make an offer on multiple chips for a discount off of the 'buy it now' price. Not usually a big discount, maybe 10% or less, and my offer tends to get taken.

I know this is not related but where do you get the cool WCG widgets with all the stats?

They have far better OpenCl support because they allow it. NVIDIA uses CUDA. Which is currently, better (read: more mature). But thats because its older, and has had millions of dollars thrown into making it better. I do suspect OpenCl will catch up eventually, but currently it has not. I wonder what impact C++ AMP will bring to the market. It's relatively new, but seems to be "better" than OpenCL in most aspects. (C99? Really?) ![]() |

I know this is not related but where do you get the cool WCG widgets with all the stats? For the sig with the Globe go to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,29840 and then post your request at the end of the thread. For the one with the WCG badges goto http://signature.statseb.fr/index.py You will then have to register and then follow the instructions to make and customize your signature. Good luck...!!! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 2, 2013 8:56:32 PM] |

AVX/AVX2 seems to give a boost too... I wonder what kind of boost it would give WCG...
----------------------------------------Linky Haswell is a logical extension of the microarchtectural improvements Intel first introduced in Sandy Bridge. The new chip adds support for Intel’s second-generation Advanced Vector eXtensions (AVX2), which doubles the core’s peak FPU throughput. L1 and L2 bandwidth have been doubled to ensure the execution units stay fed, and the integer and FPU register files have all been enlarged. Branch prediction efficiency also gets a boost. Haswell’s real-world single-threaded performance in unoptimized code is expected to improve by 10-15%. In optimized, AVX2 code, the leap will be much larger; AVX2 includes support for integer vectorization that AVX lacks. The increased FPU capability and additional AVX2 functionality make a huge difference in Haswell’s floating-point performance. The CPU is capable of up to 32 single-precision and 16 double-precision floating point operations per core. That’s twice what Sandy Bridge could achieve; a theoretical eight-core Haswell clocked at 3.8GHz will offer 972.8 gigaflops of SP and 486.4 gigaflops of DP performance. That would give a MASSIVE boost to WCG... on ALL projects. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 12, 2013 8:28:35 PM] |

I am afraid there are no projects currently on WCG that support GPUs. It is something that is often requested but unfortunately incompatible with the current projects.

s the nVidia nForce 2 MCP GPU usable on ANY GPU projects? I don't think there are any projects that support that iGPU - even outside of WCG. Does BOINC even recognize it, can you restart BIOINC Manager and post the first 10 or so lines from the Event log? |
