Got the 7970 up and running, added the app_info file with the modified cpu settings as listed by rjbelans, so far working great.
On a Phenom II 925 @2.8 (stock) with HD7970 @ 950core/1425mem (stock) I`m running 8 WU and they are taking about 4 to 4 1/2 mins a piece. Considering everything is stock and the Phenom II is fairly outdated I`m pretty happy with that. |

I received the same WU on two of my crunchers. I guess with the high number of WUs passing through here that this type of coincidence may not be so rare.

Sorry if this is the wrong place but I've been away from the forum for a while except for my team thread mostly and I'm a bit lost on the GPU stuff. I read someplace that the HCC GPU stuff is a limited run thing sort of like the McRib sandwich at McDonalds. Is that accurate? Because I'm prepared to invest some pretty serious dosh in new hardware and that would be, how you say, kinda important.

It is supposedly to end in about 100 days but with folks buying new cards to participate, may run drier sooner. I purchased 2 and getting over 1 million ppd. Has been stated that there are no other GPU projects in the hopper at this time. We are all hoping though.

Do you have a cite for that - not that I'm questioning your veracity, I'd just like to know what the official pronouncement was that led to that conclusion is all. Thank you for the swift response though.
----------------------------------------![]() edit: this would certainly explain why my 6850's couldn't get any work despite the fact that they're still fairly decent GPU's. edit2: I take that back. I was having a problem with the remaining 6850 getting work, but I was confused. That tends to happen when you're running half a dozen rigs and you're easily confused to begin with. The 6850 is in fact getting work, it' just running at about 4 min. per wu rather than around 2 min like the 7950's. ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 10, 2012 7:45:29 PM] |

Hello twilyth,
Bearcat is right. Back in October when we finally started running HCC GPU, we had enough work units from the project scientists to last about through the first quarter of 2013. But we were speeding up all the time. Nobody has said what the project scientists will do. ![]() Lawrence |

You are probably familiar with the most accurate guesstimate of remaining work for all WCG sub-projects twilyth. If not, you can track them on SekeRob's chart here http://bit.ly/WCGPI1

Thank you kind sirs for the info. Very tasty and definitely went down better than a McRib.

The scientists for HCC are still in the process of assessing how much additional work there will be for the project. So we don't know yet how much longer the project will run. We hope to get a new estimate of remaining work from them in a few weeks.

When they come up with more work, the best way to get it done (in addition to serializing the work units) will be to engineer multiple work units to run on a card but not using the CPU at the same time. If left up to each user, the only way to do that is to throw a lot of CPU cores at it and hope to saturate the GPU. Then, they seem to settle down to a steady-state wherein they are not all running on the CPU at once. But that is hardly practical in most cases, especially since the app_info precludes other projects, unless specifically allowed. Maybe they can address that in some subsequent enhancement?
