Congrats Brown Chris! Tinkering with the overclocking of the GTX580 and blew up a GPUGRID task (well actually 2). Lost 4+ hours of GPU time.Near Death Experience: My I7/870 had one. The CPU Cooler fan locked up and the 870 was running 90c. Got it fixed and back to the 60s (c). ![]() Thanks, RT and NiceMedTexMD. My experience with overclocking and GPU projects is not to do it. I had my video card so hot one day I could smell it. And, it was failing on every WU it received (after crunching on it for quite a while). It seems to work best the way it was sold. Actually I do overclock one thing - I put the fan up to 90% and leave the rest of it alone. Understand. I tinker with each new gadget and see how fast it will run reliably. e.g. my Intel I7/870 (the one I was talking about above) runs fine at 3.3Ghz but is too hot. It comes at 2.93 and I have it running at 3.09. It stays in the mid 60s (c) And works fine. That GPU gizmo is not so easy to play with. When I try to make adjustments, they sometimes take effect and sometimes seem to fall in the bit bucket. On that puppy, I have it set on default settings now apart from a more agressive fan speed curve (likely similar to yours). That reminds me, I likely should look for replacement fans for when these wear out. I have replacement fans on order for the CoolerMaster V8 coolers from CoolerMaster. I may have to go to liquid cooling for those GPUs. I once had a CPU on liquid cooling; I don't know where the liquid kept going...finally I de-tuned it and put an air cooler back on it. |

I don't know enough about overclocking to do it. I would try if I did know something, but i've got other fish to fry. lol
