I've been running WCG for a few years now on tons of Windows XP, 7, and Server machines...most of these machines are on 24x7 and Boinc is running at 90% of the time or more...even while the pcs are in use.
----------------------------------------On almost all the machines, at sporadic times, I get that REALLY ANNOYING error popup bubble next to the system clock telling me that BOINC "couldn't do internet" (TERRIBLE English I might add). This happens on 100% of my 20+ machines and might happen once a week or 3 times a day. I always check and sure enough there is an internet connection. If I try to manually update it, it still complains. The only remedy is to exit Boinc and start it again. That works 100% of the time. Why does this happen? Is there a way to make Boinc 6.10.58 better at realizing there is truly a connection? The only setting I see in Preferences (which is enabled by default) is the "Confirm before connecting to the internet" box. I have not tried disabling it...because the Help states that it will always pop up a confirm before trying to connect. The Help is obviously wrong because I've never seen a popup before it tries to connect. Anyway, this is really irritating because for non-techies that have WCG running and see this bubble, they find it a huge annoyance and don't know how to fix it. I would place a bet that this error message is probably a major reason why people give up on WCG and uninstall the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ericinboston at Aug 31, 2012 4:02:37 PM] |

It's just a symptom of the wider problem. Just hang fir and wait for the system to be restored.

Just hang fir and wait for the system to be restored. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33701 No...that is a different problem and shows up in the Messages area as the servers are unavailable. The problem I am reporting is that Boinc seems to believe there is no Internet connectivity at all. 2 different problems. ![]() |

For the problem I am reporting and the remedies I have tried, yes, restarting Boinc works 100% of the time. 2. I have re-booted as you suggested and itSTILL reports no internet so your solution is not 100%. It maybe 100% for you, but you do not say that, it does not work for me, so you cannot claim 100%!
If you had said it was 100% for you, then your statement would have been accurate, as far as I know, but you claimed it was 100% by implication for all who try it, which in no way you can claim as you could not know it would work for everyone. So don't waste our time posting false information!! ![]() |

You are barking on the wrong tree. If BOINC believes something, you can't expect the answer regarding that believe from WCG, but only and only from Boinc... ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000.
