BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration. I suggest that the issue is with this message under certain circumstances. When the WCG servers are down, every client will be checking whether it can connect to the reference site (which is IBM's home web page). That can cause the reference site to become overloaded, so clients then fail to receive a response. The client software takes that to mean that there is a connectivity problem at the client's end. However, the user is able to verify that other internet access (web, email, etc.) is working correctly, and so is confused or takes offence at the BOINC message. At one time, the client end assumption was probably reasonable. With the increasing number of clients and with more having broadband, there are now occasions when it's an incorrect assumption. |

The BOINC-clients default reference-site is Google, and even if 100k - 200k clients tries to access Google within a hour, it's unlikely Google will have any problem handling this traffic. So, this is only a problem due to WCG insisting on overriding the default reference-site in their customized windows-clients (v6.2.28 and v6.10.58), and at the same time failed to ask for a change in the error-message... ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Sometimes it happens that I receive that message too. When I open Explorer then, it tells me there is a problem with my connections, it solves the problem, and tells me that an internet-card was disabled and repaired by Windows.
Hope this helps. |

Well, this may not fix your connectivity issues but it may prevent confused non-techies who may panic when seeing the balloon pop up. Simply reduce the network connectivity reminder to 0 so that it never pops up. Again, this does not fix the connectivity issue to begin with, rather only gets rid of the panic response from the users. Advanced view...advanced...options The way to set this varies for different client versions. In 7 Advanced View > Tools > Options > General. There is no connection specific interval setting anymore [that I can find], but notices can be set to fixed time options [think the connect reminder option a slider in earlier versions]. I've set notices to "never". Nothing ever pops up, but then I'm hardly ever using BOINC Manager... I'm all BOINCTasks Manager. |

However, I didn't go that detailed into it since he stated what version he was running. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
