I started this thread with MY problem and MY DETAILS. Start your own thread with your own details and troubleshooting steps and let people directly help you on YOUR problem. I have not got a problem, you have, and you were told that it was a problem with the WCG Servers that you said was fixed by YOU doing a re-boot. Since then all you have done is prattle on.......... |

Ummmm.... 1. For the problem I am reporting and the remedies I have tried, yes, restarting Boinc works 100% of the time. Strange, the only connection-problem I'm aware that is always fixed by stop & re-start of BOINC-client is the "DNS forever cached"-problem, but was under the impression this was fixed by v6.10.58, meaning such a connection-problem should auto-correct after some minutes... So, possibly you're not waiting long enough for this to be corrected, or my recollection is wrong and if so the only way I'm aware to fix this is to upgrade your BOINC-client. But anyway, to make sure you're not getting this kind of pop-up, you can do: In your BOINC data-directory, make or edit a file called cc_config.xml (use Notepad on one computer, just copy the file to data-directory on the other computers afterwards). The file should minimum include:
To start using the new config, either "Read config file" (advanced view, advanced menu-choise) or re-start BOINC-client. This will mean no popup will come-up due to connection-problems, and other users will therefore not be confused by this. Computers can still have connection-problems, but there should atleast not be any messages confusing users about this. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. A way to suppress an error message when you have an error so you can think you do not have an error. Elegant Simplicity |

It's just a symptom of the wider problem. Just hang fir and wait for the system to be restored. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33701 ...The problem I am reporting is that Boinc seems to believe there is no Internet connectivity at all... You are barking on the wrong tree. If BOINC believes something, you can't expect the answer regarding that believe from WCG, but only and only from Boinc... Exactly...and that's why I posted this question in the Boinc forum. ![]() |

Congrats. 2)I never said reboot...go back and read. 3)The person who stated the problem was with the servers was incorrect...as I replied stating the difference of the error messages...again, you're not reading. You don't have the problem, but you have a lot to yap about and waste thread space with your incorrect remarks and lack of any kind of troubleshooting experience. ![]() |

Well, this may not fix your connectivity issues but it may prevent confused non-techies who may panic when seeing the balloon pop up. Simply reduce the network connectivity reminder to 0 so that it never pops up. Again, this does not fix the connectivity issue to begin with, rather only gets rid of the panic response from the users. Advanced view...advanced...options

Alrighy I was having the same problem as OP and tried a lot of solutions, and my router locked up and it even stopped broadcasting wifi O_O. However after doing a hard reset: hold reset button for 30 seconds, unplug for 30 seconds, reconnect power and continue to hold reset button for 30 more seconds. The reset button is held for a total of 90 seconds without being released. My wifi came back up and I resumed what I was trying to do; ensure that Universal Plug 'n Play (UPnP) was enabled. I don't know if it was enabled before hand but after the reset I could enable it and low and behold my projects zipped off to the server.
I have no idea what fixed my problem or if it was just a coincidence and some lingering server problem got cleared at the same time. So my advice: After you have checked all the usual stuff and restarted and all that jazz. 1. Try refreshing your connection to your router. Open up command prompt and enter in the following hitting enter after each line. ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew This will reregister your computer on the network and my fix some lingering issues. 3. See if you can enable UPnP on your router, this allows programs to set up their own temporary port forwards and may fix the problem. 2. Try rebooting your router, the 30,30,30 method described above is a good way to ensure that you are absolutely starting from scratch. As a side note there are many different types of routers out there and while I have never heard of it, this may perform a factory reset, which is annoying at worst. Good luck! |

My opinion is that BOINC seldom uses technically correct information in the messages. Problems reported as 'internet connection problems' usually are not connection problems. They are simply problems where the servers are not replying with the expected protocol / response. Instead of listing a specific problem, BOINC calls it a 'connection' problem. I cannot recall any time when this message popped up and the problem was with the connection except occasionally when my router needed rebooting. Normally it is a server problem.
So my experience has been that 'connection ' problem message implies server problem > 95% of the time; router problem < 5% of the time. Lawrence |

My opinion is that BOINC seldom uses technically correct information in the messages. Perhaps it is time for BOINC messages to have two views: simple, and detailed. The simple view will address the bottom-line_conscious audience who often and mostly do not care about the technical truths -- for that often spells 'devils'; while the detailed view would be, well, full of devils! ; ; edit1_2012.09.01Sa.1744.utc ; -- inserted the critical devil: "messages". ; [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 1, 2012 5:44:03 PM] |

So my experience has been that 'connection ' problem message implies server problem > 95% of the time; router problem < 5% of the time. Well, no actual messages has been posted in this thread, so let's take a look on them. 1st., blocked the network-access, this gave two messages: 01.09.2012 22:24:43 | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference siteAlso, a new notice shows-up, marked as being "Notice from BOINC", with the same as the red message. Interestingly enough, there was no popup or any indication there was any new notice, before opened-up BOINC Manager and then the notice was apparent... 2nd., allowed network, but blocked only the project, this also gave two messages: 01.09.2012 22:28:20 | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference siteIn this instance there was no notice, but the old notice was removed. Only then the BOINC-client fails accessing the reference-site is there any notice and then BOINC-client either succeed connecting a project or succeeds accessing the reference-site this message is removed. For anyone looking at the Event Log, failing accessing reference-site is the only marked red. So, appart for "reference site" possibly being confusing to new users, atleast to me these messages seems to be fairly accurate. So, maybe me not being natively english means is getting a meaning out of these messages that is confusing or bad language or something to english users? ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
