Re: Invalid results, but only on two projects

zcommodore,

Clearly your result has had many restarts, particularly at this point:

Quit requested: Exiting
[13:42:04] Number of tasks = 48
[13:42:04] Starting task 29,CPU time is 26855.140625.
[13:42:04] ./ZINC11935928.pdbqt size = 30 4 ../../projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/dsfl.target_00010-13.pdbqt size = 12287 0

Maybe you can open the stdoutdae.txt file in the BOINC data directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC (from your client message log), and see if you can correlate these Exiting entries in the result log and see what's said.

As you can see from your wingman, no regressions... no exitings, just a smooth cycle to the end. Now for you to check if the other invalid results show the same issue. Also the BobCat13 findings will be of interest.

Re: Invalid results, but only on two projects

7/26/2012 2:00:54 PM Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ [Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0]
7/26/2012 2:00:54 PM OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Home x86 Edition, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00)

I have an Athlon XP 2800+ (XP Home SP3) that had all invalid on the VINA sciences during Beta testing, but I have not tried any production tasks on that machine. I will boot it up and try a couple of production DSFL/SN2S tasks to see if they show up as valid or invalid.

Amd Athlon Family 6, will only produce a valid result on a vina app if wingman is also family 6 AMD. No fix avail, is bug in vina or vina validator and not going to be fixed as not enough of us to worry with. do not waste time with vina on this box

Re: Invalid results, but only on two projects

First result has finished and validated, but it was an additional copy as the first two were in Pending Verification. Could be that one of the originals was AMD Family 6, so that is why mine is valid. Starting on second DSFL, this one is copy 0.

The ZR (Zero-Redundancy) approach applied to VINA-based projects might have helped cruncher's machines with an AMD Athlon Family 6 cPU to go ahead and participate in those projects and produce valid doneWUs. The verification-needs of the ZR approach, however, blunts that promise unfortunately -- as there will always be a need, no matter how sparingly it may be done, to verify doneWUs. Unless and until there is a sufficient number of those belonging to the particular homegeneity-group of which the AMD Athlon Family 6 is a member, I'm afraid that the above suggestion will have to do.

Re: Invalid results, but only on two projects

The restarts are likely just from the computer being used aperiodically by my kids to play games which is the purpose of said computer. The number crunching for the "Grid" is secondary so there's not much I can do about the restarts.

It looks like the general consensus is to focus on the projects that the system can provide useful results so that is the choice I have made at this time. At some later date, I may get another system running that can crunch the VINA projects again.

Re: Invalid results, but only on two projects

I can confirm, AMD based hosts are not appropriately considered by VINA (never experienced such kind of problems with other sciences).
Definitively, AMD Athlon should avoid VINA projects; even if the computation was successful, a large part of the results will be considered as invalid.
By Phenom II based systems, the picture is a little bit better. However, the final figure is less good than by non VINA-based projects.
This situation is disturbing for me since currently the majority of my cores are AMD.
Cheers,
Yves

Second DSFL went to Pending Verification, then Invalid when the _2 copy was returned.

Re: Invalid results, but only on two projects

Thx for confirming BobCat13. Verdict sur place: No change for this AMD family and no hope in heck for this little group to get it´s own HRG. knreed et al would have their monthly/periodic error reports to know if there ever would be a justification.
