Looks like my download of Mountain Lion has broken BOINC. I guess this is the result of Apple's new security model for applications ... hopefully someone can quickly fix that before all the Apple contributors stay dropping off the World Community Grid.
There is a non-Apple estimate that already some 2.0 million people have upgraded since 25 July !! |

OS upgraders [those that had BOINC already on it] are supposed to be able to continue running BOINC, but for the occasion, 7.0.31 was specially coded to deal with OS-X 10.8.
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?all_platforms=1 Note to anyone else reading this: 7.0.28 for Linux/Windows is broken [it could work for you but don't expect it to work 100% in all circumstances]. 7.0.31 is still being tested for these platforms and 7.0.32 is already being earmarked for build in the near future... a test version too! |

OS upgraders [those that had BOINC already on it] are supposed to be able to continue running BOINC, Hmm, the wording I've seen is "if they are already running BOINC 7.0.28", meaning it's a good chance most WCG-Mac-users is running too old BOINC-version. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

In fact I was running a "current" version - at least I think I was - and I downloaded the current Mac OS X version which matched what I had an re-installed it anyway to now avail: (Apple) Mac (6.10.58) (PowerPC, x86) md5: 45baf391f53454c1e6afe003b82881a0 But I shall check out the supplied link ... TY ... and report back |

TY ... and report back Excellent - Berkley download of 7.0.31 1worked but ... 1/ renamed old BOINC just to preserve it 2/ did download and ran install 3/ required a reboot 4/ started but generated an error message about authorities (see below). 5/ Fiddle with permissions to no avail 6/ deleted latest install 7/ did a re-install, during which, because (a) it appeared or (b) because I was paying attention there was a question about authority/permissions that I (now) replied correctly to 8/ another reboot 9/ another auto-restart and VOILA ! we have BOINC back Many thanks -- happily back crunching again BOINC Manager You currently are not authorised to manage the client. To run BOINC as this user, please: - reinstall BOINC answering "Yes" to the question about non-administrative users or - contact your administrator to add you to the 'boinc_master' user group |

Okay. So I have a similar problem, checked & double checked install routine, and nowhere have I been able to find the option to fix the authority/permissions problem, so I have a broken install. Do you remember where the authority question popped up???

Never mind, I still haven't found that switch for the permissions problem but the second time I reinstalled it, it worked, even though I didn't do anything different.

WCG admin added this sticky to the Known Issues list: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33527
Don't know how fast tracked the code checking and auditing will be for 7.0.31, but at least it's in the works for the 10.8 upgraders of OS-X. |

From the version 7.0.31 ReadMe.rtf:
"The installer automatically gives administrators (users who are members of the "admin" group) membership in the two new groups, so that they can easily manipulate BOINC files. The installer asks you if you would like non-admin users to be able to run the BOINC Manager and to have access to these files. This is particularly useful where many people have access to the computer, as in a school computer lab." My Mac user account is part of the admin group so I didn't see the installer question. To manually add a user to these BOINC groups: System Properties > Users & Groups > Click triangle next to "Groups" (you may have to authenticate to allow changes) > select BOINC group > place checkmark next to user in "Membership:" section You'll either have to logout and login or restart the computer for the setting to take effect. |

I thought I left a post yesterday, but I don't see it. So, I'll try again. I'm running Mountain Lion and BOINC (7.0.31) is running fine. I was running the same version before I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
