Greetings.
----------------------------------------I have read the topic about the server problems that occurred 3 days ago (July 20,2012), and I think this may be related... Symptom: WCG WU can not upload. (project backoff is at 10 minutes.) i tried a ping to https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ and http://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ both give messages like ping: unknown host https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ When I had this problem with seti, I could ping their dns server, and sometimes, the problem would clear. Would this be helpful? If so, what is the address of the dns server for https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ ??? Thanks in advance!! Jay PS I can get to other websites (and this one) OK. ![]() |

Doubtful that it's a DNS problem, on all my setups, the URL resolves just fine to 198.20.8.246...
----------------------------------------But the host on that address just isn't answering properly, to ping or otherwise... The problem (and fix) a couple of days back was due to knreed's attempt to split off the scheduler to it's own URL and that was something that needed to propagate through DNS and most importantly, in the BOINC masterfile. That's why you either had to wait until the BOINS client would check by itself after a dozen or so failed attempts in increasing retry intervals or by repeatedly hitting the update button manually. This time, it's clearly a "you can try to talk all you want, I just won't listen" issue with the server(s) end... Btw, the "secure.worldcommunitygrid.org" URL resolves to the same address, making the server issue even more obvious... Ralf [Edit 1 times, last edit by TPCBF at Jul 23, 2012 5:31:10 PM] |

Additionally, WCG does not repond to PINGs so no matter what the status of the server is you won't ever get a reply.

Try restarting boinc. Worked for me. Watch the log after restart. Should see a file updating boinc that fixed mine.

Additionally, WCG does not repond to PINGs so no matter what the status of the server is you won't ever get a reply. Also, a response or a no-response to PINGing is not an indication of a server's operational health.Try restarting boinc. Worked for me. Watch the log after restart. Should see a file updating boinc that fixed mine. There is currently an issue with the WCG-servers about uploads/downloads of WUs. BOINC can't do anything about that.; |

i tried a ping to https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ and http://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ both give messages like ping: unknown host https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/ You used the wrong syntax. Correct is: ping scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org which should work. |

Additionally, WCG does not repond to PINGs so no matter what the status of the server is you won't ever get a reply. Ping'ing doesn't mean squat, it's not a proper diagnostic tool. And it's not an external communication issue, this is clearly something on the server itself that doesn't play ball here...Ralf |
