If it is using Standard VGA Adapter, then it isn't using your video cards drivers. I would reinstall them or physically verify the card is functioning.

At this point I don't think there is a card but on-board video from the MoBo. That would explain the standard adapter driver and the proper message would be "no usable GPU's found". That would not explain no CPU tasks though. Need messages from Start to the end of the CPU work request.

Not necessarily onboard video. I have had many cards that I didn't load the drivers yet or began to fail and the drivers no longer worked but would still produce a screen using Standard VGA Adapter. The card may still partially work. I used to use these almost dead cards in servers that didn't need a monitor hooked to them. Nothing like trying to change system settings with just 16 colors...lol.

ericinboston...maybe you could use this as an opportunity to have them put an even better GPU in the server. Couldn't hurt to drop the hint...lol

And you can look in ProgramData/BOINC/stdoutdae.txt. This is where the interesting files, such as slot/ all are.

Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml: <no_gpus>

Someone [gremlins I'm sure] did something in the cc_config.xml. Frankly with the end tag missing, a proper format <no_gpus>0</no_gpus> to enable GPUs [default], no idea what BOINC makes of it... suspect this is why you get the message. Fix it and let us know, after a client restart.

Nope...that's not it. I added that tag (incorrectly I see) AFTER seeing the problem I described in my original post. I got the code from some website but they didn't have an end tag...I saw this error showing up in the log but had no idea how to fix it.

I can remove the tag or add that end tag.

I had to truncate this file because these forums have some kind of text limit on posts...the first 50 or so lines were from June 8 and were basically lines stating that BOINC waited too long to report the work units.

Anyway....more ideas?

My concern is under device manager rather then BOINC. If your video card is not showing up as anything but Standard VGA Adapter, it isn't going to work with GPU. I'm glad it worked for you for 9 months, but please don't dismiss our suggestions as if hardware doesn't fail. As stated above, I have experienced cards continuing to function on a very basic level but yet not capable of running with manufacturer drivers. Please verify that you can get the card to work under Windows properly with drivers before going further. I understand you are 2000 miles away, but remote desktop'ing in will also let you check device manager accordingly. GPU processing in poorly designed crunchers can kill cards very quickly. Let us know more about what Windows tells you. Also, if you are allowed a system restart on this server, please do so and copy the first 30 lines of the message log so we know what BOINC is actually detecting as well.

There you go... NO USABLE GPU's...this is BOINCs way of saying you gotta put in a capable GPU or set it up right so BOINC knows what it is. This is a Windows/Drivers issue. Not BOINC. Start with fixing it in device manager. If it is nVidia XYZ or AMD 123, it will need to be identified by Windows before BOINC can use it.

What happens if you tick the box to allow GPU use when active?

Else, over to the HW guys.

P.S. What's with 10% memory use when active? Is the GPU using the System RAM rather than having it's own memory? Just wonder if that 10% setting has impact on the whole i.e. if CPU tasks use the 10%, what's left for the GPU, which anyway is suspended during user input.

Edit: This looks like 10% of 10%... 1% of 64GB it says the system has, or?
