Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water 64 bit (June 13, 2012) Issues Thread

[Almost] full marks for ''Comprehending English", bono vox, as it depends on how the techs reply. There's a BUT to this: 32 bit clients on 64 bit hosts, can receive and handle 64 bit science apps... after all the manager is just a manager... it does no crunching. It's not unequivocal if "to both the 64 bit and 32 bit version" is meaning the host or the OS. The intend implies the OS.

My Linux picked up both 32 and 64 bit btw, but the quad was still limited to only get 4 ;P

Got 7 so far. 4 running on a x4 AMD Fedora 17, 2 on x2 AMD Fedora 17 and 1 on single core Centrino Fedora 15.

Re: Beta test for Computing for Sustainable Water 64 bit (June 13, 2012) Issues Thread

We are sending both 32 bit and 64 bit. This means that all machines are able to download.
So, can my 32-bit machine (with a 32-bit OS) download the 64-bit version? I'm not sure if a 32-bit machine (with a 32-bit OS) is able to crunch a 64-bit application.

What do you think a 32 bit OS can do with a 64 bit app? The servers know the bit size of a device's OS and will appropriately assign the correct version.

Bottom 2 are 64 bit ( v 6.12). A slight improvement on Ubuntu 11.10.

edit: Well, same as that was found for this device for C4CW, 6-8% faster. I'll take it.

Why are you in the habit of answering a question with another question? Why not go direct the point and say yes or no, followed by an explanation?

Simply because there are at least 2 ways to learn. One if to be told the answer to every little question without you having to waste even the smallest amount of time thinking about the answer and a second is to use your own mind and discern the answer yourself. Alternatively you can use Google and find out the answer to the question: "can you run a 64bit application on a 32bit operating system".
