I have some of them pending validation since Aug 5th. There is a problem with Shrubbers (aka Cruhchers :-) ) which download lot of WU's in their cache and then forget to shrub (aka crunch :-) ) them, so we have to wait little bit longer :-)

That's just fine, it's just that there are always some "deadbeat" crunchers out there that cause a long wait as they either run an over-sized WU cache or simply stop working. I run a cache of 5 days, up from 3 days recently. The reason for this is to make sure I don't run out of work, and can operate at 100% efficiency, even when the servers are having problems, my IP connection is having problems, etc. I think that's better than operating a small cache and risking having 17 cores running dry of work, just so other people get their credit a day or two sooner. I hope that doesn't make me a deadbeat! On the other hand, when I have to shut down for more than a few days (e.g. holiday), I try to set 'don't get more work' a few days early, and abort any WUs remaining in my queue before switching off. ![]() (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) |

You run the way you feel comfortable with, and the amount of hands-on time you wish to spend on distributed computing... ideally set-and-forget. If that requires more caching, that is perfectly fine to bridge outages, locations network requirements or what not. This is why WCG grands 10 day return time [except for test and repair work].

Are the validators down again or just slowly coping with the backlog?

Looks like there's a problem with the validators again. I have about 8 pages more "Pending Validation" than normal.
