during the last beta test gpu, my graphics card was used at 63%. this is normal? That is normal for a BOINC project just starting into GPU use - even higher than some I've seen. Expect it to increase later. |

I have a pretty beastly I7-860 CPU and a Nvidia GTX 580. Looking at my stats, the GTX 580 has done about 85% of my total credit and I have been giving BOINC 98% of all 8 cores of my CPU almost 24 hours a day.
This would indicate GPU work units are well and truly worth moving towards in greater volume if it all possible, I think! Would love to see it happen |

When I return from vacation in August I hope to see HCC GPU tasks aplenty......

yes, I already made calculations for beta gpu. approximately 1 month, 3 months? Too many times things have gone funky at the last minute and then everyone screams and yells saying 'you promised such and such a date and now it is not here', this is why projects rarely give dates anymore. Rest assured they ARE working on it and it WILL be released when it is ready! What happens if they promise next week and the Servers crash and burn, or the power goes out due to storms? I'll tell you SOME people will scream and yell and say bad things about not being prepared etc, etc, better to say 'when it is ready' then give a date. Even a time frame...a month for example, can give extra pressure to release buggy software causing more problems! There are several other boinc projects that can use your gpu's right now, if you feel like trying them out feel free. http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/ is a fairly generic one that can use most gpu's and is a math problem that is being proven. ![]() ![]() |

There are several other boinc projects that can use your gpu's right now, if you feel like trying them out feel free. Now is a good time to give your card a shakedown test if you didn't get any work units in the beta. I now have a new MSI Radeon HD 7770, and am using POEM@Home for testing purposes, and like it very well. It is quick, and gives good feedback as to what works and what doesn't. Also, the science seems to be good, and I think I will stick with it for awhile anyway. |

Glad to have you at POEM, Jim. Good fundamental research.
