HD 7970 "No Usable GPUs found"

Is anyone running a HD7970 on Windows XP x64 ?
I have just installed a 7970 on a friend's computer along with Boinc 7.0.27 , and Boinc says "No Usable GPUs found"
It has the Catalyst 12.4 installed.
Windows sees the new GPU just fine but Boinc doesn't... sad
The only thing I can think is maybe the old NVidia drivers might be messing with it.....
Anybody got any experience with the 7970/Boinc and any advice ?

Help I've fallen and I can't get up ! d oh

We'll try to get you standing again, tomast. wink

I would start with your driver. When you first install a card, Win 7 will install a new driver for the card. It does not always make a good selection. Update your driver and then restart the machine. Then check boinc again.

I almost always get theis message the first time I boot up a new card. Hope this helps.

peace

Re: HD 7970 "No Usable GPUs found"

I'm doing windows update for .Net Framework right now so it'll be an hour or more downloading that before I can do anything else.... Maybe that will make a difference.... or not...

Re: HD 7970 "No Usable GPUs found"

Well, that's not good. sad

Your startup messages looks fine. I see you are using a custom profile. Did you check it to ensure GPU use is allowed? Other than that, I am stumped.

You can use OCCT to perform a test on the card but my experience is if you see video the cards works. laughing I will check my notes and see if I can think of anything else. good luck

Re: HD 7970 "No Usable GPUs found"

Ok, I looked at my notes. Does your motherboard have on-board video? Many years ago I was installing a 8800 GT on XP SP2 and boinc would not see it because it was looking on the mobo and didn't like it. I remember I had to disable it on Device Manager and then it accepted the 8800 from the PCI slot. I can't remember how I did it. sad

I know this is just a shot in the dark but maybe it will help. peace

If BOINC is running as a service it can't see the GPU.

Re: HD 7970 "No Usable GPUs found"

No on-board video. Was an Nvidia GT520 card. (29W TDP)
I was the one that suggested to get the 7970 cuz she wants to do Milkyway@home DP.
I have updated the .Net Framework finally but now it wants to download almost 300 Mb more updates. That will take hours on my slow connection.
Searching Google I found a ref. to needing at least SP1 for .Net so I am still hopefull that it may help.
Or else I'm gonna be in the dog house. sick

If BOINC is running as a service it can't see the GPU.

No such luck... It isn't... sad
I guess I could reinstall just to be double sure.
