Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

SETI.Germany is on Place 24 worldwide....
I think, wie Doubled our Output on WCG these days..... :-)

But, thanks for this Feedback, knreed!!!!
It's a preciousssssss for me, that our Challenge increases the output of this grid in a really "viewable" way!!! (don't know, how to say it in english in a better way.... Hope you understand!!! :-) )

There are some days left for WCG, but I think, the maximum serverload is done, so you will have a good chance to have a nice weekend!!!! ;-)
But, who can be sure........

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

is that a lag on boincstats or the WCG-power went really down to 37M/day ?

i believe all teams prepare to the final race on pentathlon

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

Willy from boincstats is preparing a website-update...
There will be a new design on these stats-page which will go online on thursday or so...
I think, this could be the reason of this....

But I'm not sure about that...

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

XSmeagolX,

If in contact with Willy, ask him to move the scheduled updating for WCG to about 1.5 hours later than present. That will allow his site to catch the 6 hourly exports "after" the freshest update (presuming those exports are generated for noon and midnight after WCG done their own stats refresh), and takes some incidental slowness in generating the exports into account. The latest I can see are time stamped:

[DIR] Parent Directory -
[TXT] db_dump.xml 14-May-2012 06:31 681
[CMP] host.gz 14-May-2012 06:30 239M
[TXT] tables.xml 14-May-2012 06:31 4.0K
[CMP] team.gz 14-May-2012 06:17 2.1M
[CMP] user.gz 14-May-2012 06:17 25M

Where Willy shows this moment:

Last update user XML 2012-05-14 05:17:44 GMT
Last update host XML 2012-05-13 17:30:03 GMT
Last update team XML 2012-05-14 05:17:00 GMT

I.e. these picked up the midnight stats (UTC) and what BOINCStats is displaying is ''stale'' (if stale is 6-12 hours behind ;)

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

Hi Sek....

One of our Team Members is the One responsible for the German translation of the boincstats Site....
And some month before, Willy was promoted as our Cruncher of the month...
This was really special, because this was one of the really rare things that happened, that not a team member was elected.... ;-)
It was a special honor for his stats site, that is the best on BOINCworld, I would say...
So, there must be some members in our team, that could be in direct contact to Willy, who can provide this information to him!

As you know, I will always do my very best!!!

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

Willy just answered me per PM:
All projects are polled for new XML files every 30 minutes, except for host XML which is picked up only once in the evening (also only one update per day).

Also take into account how BOINC updates the files. They are generated under name x.XML, then mv-ed (move/renamed) to (for example) user.XML. The dates on the files you see above are the create times, not the last change times. On large projects it can easily take more than an hour to generate all the files. So, the updated files may not be available at their create-times for some time.

Another thing to take into account is how my updates work. During the daily update no incrementals run, this would seriously mess up the stats. So, the daily starts, passes WCG, then the update of their XML comes. Then the first update to show these on BS is the first incremental after they daily. Then there may indeed be some lag even though the XML was picked up withing 30 minutes.

Willy.

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

Thanks for passing that info, Saenger. From what I can see, the WCG timestamps are the complete data sets. For instance, in real time during the noon and nightly stats, we can see at WCG in the My Grid > Statistics > History, the value being refreshed about 17-20 minutes after the whole hour (12:00 and 00:00), so the user.gz timestamp does look like that of the complete file. team.gz is only updated once per day, so the copy will be instant for 3 times a day. If I would be awake before 08:00 AM my time, I could look at the timestamps that show for the midnight update. They take longer to generate. Often the My Grid lock-out does not happen until 45 minutes after 00:00 UTC, before which one can see the history and My Grid update, but without the 00:06 UTC timestamp and *not* updated rankings. These do not refresh until after the Global Stats timestamp is updated.

I'm though confused on the polling as I wrote my post and looked in at 11:00 AM (9:00 UTC), yet the BS timestamps showed last time as 05:17:44... Maybe 5:17 GMT is the same as 6:17 UTC?

At any rate, to me it's a mere understanding how it works, what sequences, as we keep seeing these occasional "my WCG stats don't tally to BS" type of posts. I'm only pulling the WCG data twice a day from the projects pages for charting and query download my own My Grid.

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

Looks like Team 2ch has won the WCG leg of the Pentathlon:

http://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pentathlon/s...allenge.php?challengeid=3

I've visited Olympus, but cant remember having seen in what order the 5 disciplines are competed in, just remember discus, wrestling, javelin and jump. What would leg 3 be?

Gratz guys.

edit: Sorry XSmeagolX, did not see your post before. Good run.

Re: Info to WCGrid-Admins: Serverload will increase after May, 10th...

Just for your information, SekeRob....

Every two years, WCG will be definitely a part of our Pentathlon...
So last year.

This year, the third project was named "showbag", where all teams can vote for any project and the most voted project will be crunched...
So, as you can see HERE , World Community Grid was voted mostly!! (with 14 votes).

The one you can't remember was running... :D

The disciplines in the ancient pentathlon were:
(maybe in this order... but noone really knows it, it think...)
1. javelin
2. jump
3. discus
4. run
5. wrestling
