Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

Have another large file that is not uploading whatsoever. Just my rig? Or is anyone else experiencing problems again

Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

If it's a client-side problem, it might help to suspend and then unsuspend network activity.
Having reached 2 years in CEP2 and only waiting for the validations feels like vacation - also for my hard disk and my router :-)

Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

Tried the network on/off, getting ready to restart PC and try, but ALL OTHER TASKS/projects are uploading fine. Just the one big file from CEP2, same issue as before.

Then it's likely the old issue again and the Leprechaun is working hard on solving it right now ;)
As it looks like this thing re-occurs, you might limit the upload bandwidth a little, so your local network doesn't get all jammed by multiple upload attempts.

Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

Now ONE file on DSFL refuses to download, just uploaded multiple CSFW tasks, and downloaded others. All DSFL files downloaded fine but ONE. Hate it when this happens.....

Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

Not exactly stuck per se, rather only getting a few KB/sec then moves to next wu so all the big files are going through sooooo slowly.

Network is usually only on for 3 hours a day...but not like this...it will have to stay on for hours

Same here, WU upload gets stuck after a short while, taking most of the night to get to upload 50% of the large file.
When uploading works, it is at a snail pace, 1-8KBit/sec (on a 1MBit/sec upload line, which is working perfectly fine), then it will just drop out with an http error, backing off for an ever increasing interval, then the same game all over again, only inching towards uploading the whole 26.74MB file.... confused

Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

Is it a zip file this _4... then co-suspect your ISP is doing traffic shaping. Not getting more than 16-18K upload speed from central Italy. After the last down [of the WCG server] for a while it was 76-80K, but not long after the crawl resumed. And on 'Resume', is what is being uploaded in terms of progress signaled back to WCG, so if an upload is interrupted, it can 'Resume' from where it broke off.

This is only since recent times, where before there was continuous 80K. Production of daily units has hardly changed by any significance. For sure, if multiple ¯4 result units are uploading [default 2], it will block anything else v.v WCG result uploading... long as it trickles to Harvard.

No, there is no traffic shaping, and it happens on more than one machine, on totally different ISPs...
Last night when coming home from work, I noticed that issue on a remote machine running CEP2. It had finished the WU mid-afternoon and started to throw non-sense "network not available" error message in the early evening when I checked on that sever remotely. It finally finished the upload some time around midnight.
On one of my machines running CEP2 here at home, it finished the WU shortly after midnight and is up to 56% now at 9am.

Usually, those files upload for me at 60-80KByte/sec (on a digital cable connection with nominal 1MBit/sec upload speed), meaning it takes usually 10-15min on my setup and with 30-40KByte/sec, 25-30 min on the remote system (which is on a DSL line with 512KBit/sec nominal upload speed).
Now it seems to take half a day, with the speed I just saw between 1.6 and 8KBytes/sec, that is far below the usual speed and fluctuating in a far to large range to be any traffic shaping...

Ralf

(I do networking/firewalls/routers for a living, I know how to diagnose such an issue on my end)

Re: CEP Uploads timing out (May 2)

Over the past few days, I've had the same problem of the _4 files uploading very slowly. They also usually get to 100% uploaded but fail to "complete" the transfer. The error message is then e.g.
24/05/2012 17:04:08 World Community Grid [error] Error reported by file upload server: EOF on socket read : asked for 16382, got 512.
On a retry, it can drop back to say 50% before progressing slowly again.
Hmm, just tried again, got to 100%, then once again ...
24/05/2012 17:22:27 World Community Grid [error] Error reported by file upload server: EOF on socket read : asked for 16382, got 172.
I don't believe that my ISP engages in traffic shaping, but the above is worse than that anyway.
Maybe it's time for a reboot (when CEP2 checkpoints allow).
