Is there any estimates yet about the project lenght ? Or are the problems with linux that big that the lenght cannot yet be estimated (eventhough we have already run this over one week )
----------------------------------------not complaining, I know that Seks' time is limited ( eventhough he is contributing more than we mere mortals even cant imagine The actual chart is in http://bit.ly/WCGCSW ( without any questimate about the lenght of the project but I'm confident that it will be there .. ) [Edit 2 times, last edit by JEklund at Apr 26, 2012 6:39:28 PM] |

You're quoting the estim. SN2S progress. :O
Whilst, how many records and milestones can one pack in 1 day: 1. Record Runtime Years processed in a day (43) 2. Record Results processed in a day (81K) 3. First 250 CPU years milestone raced by. 4. First 500,000 results milestone in a flash. http://bit.ly/WCGCSW As I commented in other thread, there wont be an estimate for a while. If you go by the webcast data, we'll be done by end of next month, at the latest, which of course would have been a red flag to WCG to not board this project. Too short, way too much work [like 9 months] to bring it to the grid. Several times the project pages and webcast mention to do this in a year. Set your control to that if you will. --//-- |

I think the smaller projects can encourage MORE people to get on board the crunching train as the goals are easier to attain, finding a cure for Cancer while very admirable and hopefully attainable could be a LONG way off. Finding the next 'Goldilocks' type planet in the Milky Way Galaxy, as an example, could be as simple as putting our resources towards analyzing the data already available, making it easier to crunch than setup. This may make it not suitable as a Boinc project for most places, but the enjoyment on someones face of being 'the one' that found it could be priceless! |

I just got my first job with starting with a 5(0507).
Purely based on the names of the WU I would say that there are around 10000*1000 WU. The first 500*1000 are thus done. So we seem to roughly around a 1/20 completion rate. Crunching is being done for a good 10 days already so that leaves around 200 days of work left. Take some slowing down of the project in consideratioin and I would say we are abouth 7/8 months from completion. |

Another 10 days later and I see a WU cfsw_1085_01085566
Should I conclude that after 20 days we are already crossing the 10% mark? |

Have you noticed how 1085 repeats and an extra 0 before it 1085_01085566
Leaves room to multiply by 10, and if putting an Italian alphabet in place of the 0, room for multiplication by 21 ;P. But I don't know how the numbering/naming works, so I cant tell (that's alolowing the position of full deniability). --//-- |

We haven't passed the 10% mark yet. We've created several million work units, and are creating more as we speak. There is a lot left to explore on this project.
