There's also the 'geek-appeal' of building a matchbox size cruncher

Hello asedt,

Right. Project scientists have to compile a version for OS and cpu code. Then we can adapt it for WCG. I think that it was Uplinger who got a Raspberry Pi. Anyway, staff are aware. The main thing is to get a big enough installed base that scientists feel that it is worthwhile to create code to run on the platform. Remember that they are not computer scientists. Creating a way cool program that produces 1% of the results that a x86 program would will not attract many scientists.

Re: Support of Raspberry Pi.

Hi all,

Forgive me if this has already been answered. I know that your development team would have to re-code for the PI, but is there a definitive answer here:

Can I run WCG projects on my Raspberry Pi?

As you know its an ARM processor, but my model B has 1Gb RAM and is very fast. I'm running Debian 'Skinny' with Boinc and it seems to be coping well.

My plan is to attach to a solar cell and battery system and run the Pi off the electriciy grid.

Kind regards,

Matthew

Re: Support of Raspberry Pi.

Hello mattybennett,
The answer is no. None of our projects are compiled to run on the Raspberry Pi or any version of ARM. Some of our members (including staff) enjoy monitoring the situation, but we are not taking action. Right now, we are spending our time learning how to run on OpenCL on GPUs.

Re: Support of Raspberry Pi.

That is a shame, however thank you for the reply.

As the new Model B has just been launched which has 1Gb ram, it appears to be quite stable and the potential is there.

I have tried 'Enigma@Home' which will work with the Pi. A work unit will complete in a small number of days.

Re: Support of Raspberry Pi.

If the Raspberry Pi is not supported, does anybody know of any in expensive single board PC's (ie, like a Rasperry Pi but a PC) that could be used to run WCG projects on?
