We will be starting a second round of beta testing in a few minutes. The app is called 'beta3' or 'Beta Testing - Help Conquer Cancer' (since we didn't mention that earlier). This round of testing will only be for GPU devices (on Windows) so the set of work will be available for longer before running out.

----------------------------------------[QUOTE]For anyone who's interested, cl_khr_local_int32_base_atomics requires compute capability 1.2 or higher.[/QUOTE] no longer applies and Compute Capability 1.1 is the correct version? Currently being moderated under false pretences |

I just updated my drivers and they're reporting compute capability of 2.1. Now I just need to to release them for Linux...

To be honest - we have some work to do on our side to understand this apparent conflict. We started the beta allowing most cards just to confirm what could run the project, and this is something we are looking at as a result. |

@knreed: Perhaps add "GPU" to the title of this thread.
----------------------------------------I note that most or all of the cards that gave errors also appear in the lists of cards that returned valid results ... I guess that one of the next steps here is to figure out what determines whether these cards give a valid or erroneous result. [Edit]: knreed's response below = Yes [/Edit] In the ATI lists, HD 5700, HD 5800 and HD 5x00 cards appear twice, but are written without a space between the HD and the 5 in the 2nd instances. Deliberate? [Edit]: knreed's response below = maybe - that's how they appeared in a cut&pasted list [/Edit] We are confused as to whether required Compute Capability is 1.1 or 1.2. [Edit]: knreed's response below = 1.2 [/Edit] Some more questions: We have the impression that HCC performs integer arithmetic on CPUs rather than floating point. Is this also true of the GPU client? Do any current WCG projects use the MMX instructions (SSE, AVX, etc) of the x86 CPUs, rather than only single (scalar) instructions? If not, having identified those parts of the HCC algorithm that can be sped up by using vector processing in GPUs, would it be worthwhile propagating the vector algorithms back from the GPU into the MMX instructions in the CPU version? I would point out that if HCC on GPUs was only 10x faster than on CPUs, about 10% of WCG devices would have to be using GPUs to equal the work being done by the CPUs. While it's quite likely that the enthusiasts among WCG members will achieve 10% using GPUs, this may not apply to the total fleet, so the CPU version will probably continue to make a significant contribution to HCC. Happy bughunting, everybody. [Edit 5 times, last edit by Rickjb at Mar 18, 2012 2:44:43 AM] |

It appears the credit change is working. I am claiming 32.5 instead of 200.4 on the previous group.
