Carter11 & zack55, these 'Parent' WU's are basically the 'top level' of a particular target. Each of these targets are given (if I remember correctly) a 6 hour timelimit to process them. If, after 6 hours, the estimated progress is higher than 60%, then it's allowed to continue on until the 12 hour limit - at which point, it's cut off. Any work that's left after either the 6 or 12 hour mark, is then put into a new work unit - a 'child', and the process is repeated (subsequent breakdown's of WU's, are grandchildren, great grand children etc.).
----------------------------------------So, after all the parents have been sent out and returned, there will be a whole wave of child/grandchildren/great grandchildren WU's etc., until all the targets have been computed. So, hopefully, you'll both be able to reach the goals you're looking for - but, don't loiter. Once these WU's have been processed, then that's it... ![]() |

Advise for caution: As with batches 1-2467, the further we got, the faster the positions computed. We're at ~2518/2519 out the feeder and the 4 day run time is trending, slowly still, but surely:
18th 6.02510 19th 6.01436 20th 5.98992 21st 5.85392 The five 2517 test results processed on my laptop ran 1.8 hours as indication average, longest 1.95, shortest 1.60. This is a one time chance to make up, or to even get bronze for new arrivals on something very finite... 30 days per the dashboard! --//-- |

gb009761, thank you for the explanation, that is probably the simplest and clearest one I have read that shows how the generations are created. As an emerald holder I jumped on the new work units as soon as they were announced and now have 15 calendar days to sapphire, giving me a theoretical chance to go all blue for all my projects. So I join with gb and SekeRob in saying do it now, time is running out.

2 days later now and I'm seeing 2527 now so it is definitely trending down fast. I think there's still enough for me to hit Ruby in 3 days.

It's going pretty fast. But as I understund there will be series of children send out after parents? So can anybody tell how many days we have?
It's pretty tricky to me write now. I need about 7 days of real time to get saphire. So if there is not many worunits I can increase buffer to 10 days. But must be carrefull, because after HCMD2 I want saphire on HFCC, which is going to end too (need 20 days of real time). So, what do you advise, increase buffer or I can wait few days? It's really fun to crunch ![]() |

Zack, I don't even think the techs really know exactly as to how many day's are left - as, until the parents are crunched, no one knows as to whether they'll create children (and as to how long they'd run).
----------------------------------------If parents are still being sent out (I haven't, nor will check - as I'm happy with reaching Emerald, and don't wish to take any WU's away from those desperate for them), then I'd be tempted to just hold back a little. Note, even after all the WU's have been sent out, there's generally a little trickle of WU's - as units are either cancelled (due to the crunchers reaching their targets), or deadlines missed. ![]() |

Zack, according to knreed on June 6, "We have distributed about 100,000 parents since the restart last week and there have been about 90,000 children that have been generated."
I am in about the same position with you on HCMD2(11 calendar days) and HFCC(12 calendar days), but it seems that there will be a goodly supply of children(hopefully). I am running the 2530 series now. I am going to wait and see how fast the 2530-2540 parents go, and then increase the buffer at 2541 series if needs be. I don't want to count on the supply of children, for to us they are the unknown in this equation. |
