I hope this is not "Political" or at least not so political that I incur the wrath of huh-hum anyone here.
---------------------------------------- The web, with all its faults, is still one of the greatest things that has happened to mankind. It has made knowledge available in a completely classless and ungoverned way. It lets anyone find out virtually anything even if they don't have a library card, or a library within a hundred miles. It levels the playing field for everyone when it comes to information and knowledge. The benefits of the web are incalculable in so many ways. It has achieved this mostly because none of the worlds governments have been in charge; there has been no overlord that controls who can see what and who can do what. Now our Congress, spurred by the special interests groups (primarily the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the AFL-CIO ostensibly to protect American Workers) wants to change all that. I find that whole notion insane; due to its very nature, it makes every website that provides information part of the enforcement mechanism. It is unwieldy, practically impossible to enforce and one of the worst ideas our congress has ever come up with. Please see what the Discovery channel reports about this. Thanks for the time you spent on this; it is important. Edit: Our government complains that China and Iran should not censor the internet and now they are considering a bill that will do exactly that here.
